Why does UCLA get the most applications?

I'm curious, why does UCLA get more applications than other schools, even other UCs such as UC Berkeley and UCSD? where do all these other applicants come from? I'm thinking maybe some international students apply only to UCLA? because it seems the majority of California residents who apply would just check the box to apply to most of the UC schools....why do you think UCLA gets the most applications of any other college in the United States?

Because it’s a great school in a great location, with great teachers and students.

Probably because of location.

and its decently famous, afterall more people would know about ucla than ucsd

Because it’s in LA. Many people have no idea what the school’s selectivity is like and they think they have what it takes to get into the best school in the area. People think SoCal, LA comes to mind.

1] the population of Southern Calif is greater than that of N Calif, and most accepted UCLA students are from Calif.
2] college students[ and for the most part their parents as well] prefer if they go to college within 500 miles of home
3]The housing / general where UCLA is located is "nicer"and newer than Berkeley.
Therefore, a larger percentage of students from the more populated LA area apply to UCLA than other UC’s
these are not the only reasons but they do play a big factor in why UCLA receives more apps.

menloparkmom is correct for instate. For OOS, UCLA has a unique program (film) and a unique location (sun!) with D1 sports. But OOS yield is much worse than Cal’s due to those OOS’ers who are California Dreamin’ until they see their finaid package, or lack thereof. In contrast, Cal’s Engineering and Chem schools are probably worth the OOS cost.

I’m an international and I applied to alot of Public Colleges and a handful of Private ones since getting any aid is pretty much out of the question from a good college. Considering No aid/scholarships, Public Colleges cost less than good private ones for an international

maybe it’s the name recognition. see UCLA’s name, the applicant instantly recognizes the “substance and prestige” behind that name.

(I think heavy “marketing” or such has somethin to do with it too… UCLA was one of the very first names I knew was a college when I was an infant…)

because its the greatest school i nthe wolrd

Because UCLA is the best school out of all UCs: Great school, Great location, Great student, and Great sports teams.

Simply because UCLA is a great university. UCLA has world renowned professors and an amazingly active student body. The name of the school is easy to remember and its located in a great city which in itself is located in a region of the US with great weather.
