Why does UPenn smell?

honestly .

maybe cause they let you in?

its probably just you

if you are referring to the everpresent smell of tar? then all I can tell you is that the “smell” has been there forever; I remember it distinctly from my days there in the 1980’s and whenever I experience that smell elsewhere, I recall my time in West Philadelphia…

there is a factory near campus.

i like the smell of the street vender cheese steaks…

because you can’t have a reputation as a party school without an ungodly amount of pot on campus. duh

Maybe the OP is talking about those curious smelly spots that you run into every now and then. Current/Former students know what I’m talking about… you go west on Locust past the high rises and every now and then, you’ll walk past a spot that just reeks of sewage. I still can’t explain why it comes and goes the way it does haha

Does it? I only smell the lovely aroma of urine wafting up from the SEPTA stations on and around campus. Other than that, it smells nice!

It’s the sewage grates. I actually had a talk with the head of Penn Facilities when I was with the DP. They would love to cover them but apparently they are just not allowed to, because the city thinks it will cause some major backup and/or damage to the system.

that’s just plain gross

Virtually every city (and suburb) in the industrialized world has storm sewer grates–they’re not exactly unique to Penn.

your upper lip brah
