There is a lot of misinformation on this board, like that applicants will get an "intent to admit" letter within a couple of days. My son applied in August as an auto admit and still hasn't heard anything. 2 years ago, my son was admitted in 2 days. Why don't they just provide accurate information whether than leave students hanging like this?

Did you try calling to ask?

It could be a difference of whether they applied to a school with open-admission or not. (like natural sciences vs engineering)

No I didn’t. Isn’t that what these boards are for? There are people from the university posting here, I’ve looked on the website and this is the extent of the info:

■Texas applicants who qualify for automatic admission can find out rather quickly that they’ll be admitted to the university; decisions about their majors can take longer.

My son is applying to Psychology, which I don’t believe is one of the more competitive majors.

FWIW, I don’t find officials helpful when calling. Either they don’t want to talk to a parent or they give wrong info. With my oldest, he misplaced his UT eid and I called and was told by the student answering the phone to just register again, which you are not supposed to do. Once I called to get up-to-date info on AP test scores and CLEP exams and instead of just telling me where we could find the info, she wanted to know the urls of the websites I had looked at.

I hope that once people are accepted, they will notify this forum. Hopefully we see that in a few days.

Psychology actually is very competitive within the Liberal Arts college, it is the only Liberal Art that internal transfers have to apply to. As MaineLonghorn said, your best bet is to call the registrar.

You call the Registrar to ask about an admissions decision?

vINCEYOUNG,

My apologies, I was looking at registration info for next semester so registrar was on my mind. I meant admissions.

Vinceyoung,

Are you saying your son’s status has not been updated to “admitted” or are you saying he has not heard about the admission into the psychology? My daughter received her admissions letter into Plan II (snail mail) before her admission letter to the University (snail mail) but her UTEID was updated to accepted (Into the University as a whole…she was waiting for her Plan II admission which is snail mail only) within 48 hours of her application being COMPLETELY submitted that she has had been admitted. If you son has not heard about general admission yet, have you checked his admissions dashboard to make sure everything is complete on the University side?

And about misinformation on this board, yes there is some, BUT the usually instead of “mis” information it is just “different” information. Not one student is the same as another and there are so many different factors in admissions there is no one size fits all shirt here.

And about calling. Your son should make that call, not you. Have him call after school one day and if he can’t call after school because of school hours, most counselors will help students make that call during the school day and be there to help them navigate the call. A wonderful lesson in assertive adulthood. He needs to be prepared that he might not get the answer he is looking for. The UT website says decisions are targeted for March 1. Anything before then should be considered a gift.

collegeshopping, your daughter has been admitted this year?

I was under the impression that this year, they have not sent any Intents to Admit to anyone.

VINCEYOUNGFAN,

Last year and the years before that the University of Texas sent Intents to Admit very soon (around two days after the application is sent).

This year, they do not appear to be doing it. It might have to do with the SC case and maybe incoming changes to the admissions policy.

Propayne, sorry I didn’t see your response. That’s funny, I had about convinced myself you DO call the registrar. In any event, yes, I agree that my son would be the one to call.

collegeshopping, my son’s dashboard still says his application for admission is in review; it also says that the status is Complete/On time. Was your daughter admitted for the current year or the upcoming Fall 2013 year?

just FYI, Plan II admission is totally different than regular admission. I haven’t heard of or know of anyone admitted as yet through regular admissions! Anyone else know of anyone?

Etxcat, I am 98% confident that no one has yet been admitted through regular admissions yet.

The first wave of admission to plan II should be just before Thanksgiving, especially if you apply before their priority deadline which is October 15.

My daughter is a sophomore this year, so her admission cycle will be different. Just sharing our experiences. She was in the first round of Plan II admits and she was notified via snail mail, buy fat manilla envelope, Nov 17, 2010.

Vince…I find it odd that auto admit’s dashboards are not changing within a few days of “application complete” to “accepted” status. The Supreme Court should have no bearing on auto admits because I can’t see UT changing the rules of the game mid-cycle nor can I see the SC making them do so. An auto-admit is just that…automatic. Dumb question though…are you 100% sure your son made the auto admit cut off? I am sure you are, but just asking. We had a parent last year with a child at 8.02% and they felt that qualified and of course it didn’t.

collegeshopping, I am in the top 1%, and the MyStatus page still shows “Your application for admission is in review” for me.

Yes, absolutely sure. His application was complete around August 8 of this year. No one in the top 8% from his school has been informed. That is what is so frustrating because we were going off what the website says. It’s not like we are requesting special treatment, just do what you say you are going to do. When I do my job and I say I will let you know in 2 days, I let you know in 2 days, or if something comes up, I tell you why I can’t.

Where on the BeaLonghorn website does it state that auto admits will be notified within 2 days of their application being complete? My kiddo was accepted last year (Fall 2012 admit) and was notified in mid-October, 7 weeks after her application was completed.

Given the deluge of freshmen that accepted admittance for Fall 2012, it makes sense that UT would take their time. It states clearly on the website that the target date for admissions is March 1. If you know your child falls into the top 8%, then why worry?

txex86…I agree 100% with what you are saying. I think the frustration comes from the fact that until last fall, auto admits were getting admission notifications easily within the week they applied. Things have changed and sometimes that can be a hard pill to swallow.

i find it kind of amusing how people are freaking out over this when they know they should already be in. when i first applied to UT, i submitted my application on Nov. 17 (late, i know) and received the decision on Dec. 7 (roughly 3 weeks). i had to leave for a semester and applied for readmission last monday. i received the decision in just a few minutes lol. thats got to be some kind of record
