^^ Well, if they didn't offer your major I can see why you might be annoyed. But I just got this neat watercolor poster from Carleton today (which I've previously admired in the halls of my school) and I got a calendar before, too--sadly, I gave away the calendar because I had initially ruled out Carleton.

i got a calander a couple of day ago. i thought it was pretty cool. i actually ready through the stuff in it, which is much more than i can say about 90% of the mail i get.

i also thought it was cool that they made something different. most of what im getting is these form letters and im not sure exactly why every college is using the exact same format for them but they all have the same layout on a page and include the same reply form. its boring and impersonal.

that said, not for one second did i think i might like carleton. my mom had seen the calander on the counter and pointed it out to me and said it was a good school, but i quickly ruled it out because its in the middle of nowhere, cold, and they dont have D1 sports. in addition the lack of name recognition (exactly what is being discussed here) was also a reason i have little interest. while im not obsessed with prestige, i do want a school that at least some people have heard of. (and i dont mean that in a negative way)

^^ Yeah. It was bit irritating. But I did look into it...My mom said it was a good school and that I should (she's from MN by the way).

LHS11 - While many people have not heard about Carleton, it is well known in academic circles (good for grad school apps) and anyone who has known an alum. Because many alums think so highly of it, they tend to talk about it alot. So while parents of high schoolers may look blankly at me when I tell them where my daughter's going, often someone nearby will speak up and say, "Really, I've heard that's a great school."

Also, if you're move in Ultimate Frisbee or Academic quiz bowl circles, Carleton is very well-known:)
