seems like most every college has a club basketball team... they have various club sports but not for one of america's most famous sports. why so? i know i may be being picky but it was something i would have been genuinely interested in

a) there is a JV basketball team, little known, that does play mostly against other local college (and at times club) teams.

b) there is intramural basketball.

c) club teams are hard to start up at columbia without a lot of interest and support (read finances), also considering that gym time is limited, which usually leads to light institutional support for new ventures. but all my friends who played basketball as ugrads were never for lack of people to play with on campus, or down to the courts in riverside park. so it is not like you can’t play basketball.

Do you get recruited for the JV team? Or is it much life high school Varsity teams, where you try-out once you’re there?

Also can JV players be moved up to the Varsity team and play NCAA?

none of the JV kids i knew got called up, they were all spotted playing just during rec time in the gym as far as i know, and were told to go to this tryout.

as for can they be moved up, wouldn’t say its impossible i just never heard of the case, but as bad as ivy league basketball can be, it is still D1 for a reason, guys are big, they have pretty good skills, and they are recruited for a reason.
