why do some colleges not use common app??? like for example university of Maryland college park

@bishopgurl don’t revive a 2 year old thread. Common app has not been around that long, many colleges don’t want to switch. And it is a third party organization, there’s nothing that requires them to join.

@guineagirl is correct. Also, you might have read that the company that produces the Common App made some changes to it this last cycle and there were horrible problems. Some schools might have been worried about just that type of thing, and they certainly looked prescient. Finally, some schools have certain things they want to see in their applications that the Common App was not well designed to handle, at least originally. That may have changed some, but that doesn’t mean they will adopt it right away. Some have after hesitating for a long time.

One of the biggest reasons for state schools is that they do not want to commit to a holistic review of students, their admissions are more number driven and they receive too many applications to thoroughly review all of the information included on the common app.
