Why don't I care if I get in?

For basically all three years I've been such a tryhard about the whole college process.
I got a 2300+, top 2 in my class, two 750+ satIIs, pretty good ECs, and wrote imo great college essays.

But now I find myself not even caring whether I get in to the HYP I applied to, and am content with going to basically any school besides community college.

I'm pretty sure it's not senioritis since I still care about grades.

I just feel awkward.

I think it’s a defense mechanism thing your mind does. Getting into HYP is insanely unlikely, so you stop caring in order to save yourself from feeling bad when you get rejected.

Maybe, but I genuinely don’t think I’d care if I get in to Yale or only into Notre Dame or Florida State.

dude for hyp ur average.

Who isn’t?

…no really?

That’s basically saying “for the NFL, you’re a pretty average player.”

and…

When did I say I was the greatest applicant ever?

I find it interesting how wcao9311 can call you average, even though by your own admission your SAT is 2300+ (which could be anywhere from 2310-2400) and your ECs are “pretty good” (which could be anywhere from treasurer of Math club to cancer-curing child genius).

I think deep down you do care about which college you get into. It might be partly what Halcyon is saying, and partly that you just want to get high school over with and go to college already, so that any college seems desirable, and you’re fine with going to Florida State, even, because it’s still better than high school. I know that several of my friends and I feel some of the latter at this point.

Well not really a problem is it? Think about it this way: if you’re already done with everything, then you don’t really need to care anyways, and with your current attitude you either A) are happy getting into Florida State or Notre Dame or B) are ecstatic if you do get into HYP (because no matter what you feel now, you’ll love getting that acceptance). Looks like a win-win to me.

With those scores you’ll get into a great school no matter what (With decent ECs, which I’m sure you have). I agree, I think its a defense mechanism, I mean really be honest with yourself, I bet you still care.

I think it’s the whole “anything is better than high school” thing. That’s how I feel to be honest. I know college is awesome and I get to be even more independent so I’m alright with whatever happens :)

I’m the same way. If I end up going to UMass Boston, I’ll be content. I just want to get on with my life and leave high school behind. College is college to me and it has gotten to the point that there aren’t even palpable differences in how I feel about attending Boston College, UMass, Wellesley, or Harvard.

“I genuinely don’t think I’d care if I only get into Notre Dame.”

Sorry, but such a ridiculous statement.

It really doesn’t matter where you go, and in the long rub nobody really cares either. That’s finally beginning to set in.

Nah, what if he meant long rub?

Yeah, I thought about it again and deleted my post. It has 81,000 results on Google. I can’t figure out if it’s a typo or a Thing.

How the heck is it ridiculous? I was using it as an example to show that if I don’t get into any other schools and wind up at a school that wasn’t initially my ‘top choice’ that I won’t care.

I find it humorous how easily people get offended.

When you say you don’t care if you “only” get into Notre Dame, you’re implying that Notre Dame is a safety school, and it isn’t…it’s in the US News Top 20.

Whats HYP? Enlighten me. Lol.

Well, if I said “if I get rejected everywhere and ‘only’ get into Stanford”, would you actually think I was calling Stanford, a top 20 school, a mediocre school?
By the same token, Since ND’s a top 20 school, would you actually think I’m calling it mediocre?

Harvard, Yale, Princeton. Sometimes Stanford and MIT are added (and I’ve also seen Brown once before).

Yes. When you say, “I don’t care if I only get this school,” it looks like you’re taking your acceptance for granted.
