I got 192 on the PSAT and my friend got 194. Now she is getting mail from colleges like Brown, Vanderbilt, etc, and I am getting mail from Ithaca college, Ohio State etc... If our scores are almost the same, why don't we get mail from the same colleges?

It may depend upon how you answered the questions they asked?

maybe your mailman steals them 0.o

How you answered the questions.

Also, maybe she is stealing them. Maybe she isn't really getting those letters and is fabricating them in an elaborate plan to ruin your self-esteem.

I didn't think that colleges saw your PSAT scores. How could they send you information based on your score if they never even saw it?

Don't sweat it. The colleges are either trying to make a name for themselves or just trying to get you to apply so they can reject you. Basically everyone gets them and it makes no difference. I got a 190, btw, and I get a mixture of both. I recycle all of mine without looking inside.

what questions are you talking about?

ok, some good points in here once you get past the snide remarks! It really doesn't matter what schools send you information - you are on an admissions mailing list for several reasons, one of which is the PSAT scores if you agreed to have them released.
So now decide where you might have some interest and contact them. You'll see the mailings start! At some point, you'll feel like Harry Potter with all the mailings you just can't avoid. And most end up in the recycle bin, which is a shame! Don't worry about your recycle bin - think about what might interest you and contact those schools!

Did your friend also already take the SAT/ACT?

And it goes without saying that getting mail doesn't mean you have a better chance, and not getting mail doesn't mean you have no chance.

I think they are referring to your academic interests. I know I get stuff that mentions how I put down International Relations.

Is your friend a URM?

doesnt matter, that mail means NOTHING.
