Why don't lurkers post? Why do you care?

A lot of "lurkers" are people just searching for college info. CC comes up pretty high on Google.

3togo -- "he who talks the most listens the least" is great practical wisdom in all conversation except the virtual. No one acknowledges the hesitation, the reluctance to speak, the ironic grin, the nod, the step back from the crowd...you must remember that in a forum such as this, not posting is the same as choosing not to be counted.

Redundance is a good reason not to post. Spelling is a questionable one, in my lights -- I've never seen anyone criticized for their spelling skills here. Not posting for the fear of having an unpopular opinion is even more questionable, imho, in this society, among educated people. It has brought others to bad ends, from which I thought we had all long since learned. There have been despots in our memory whom we would not have allowed spelling errors or popularity contests to have permitted us from airing our sound disagreements...although thankfully none in togas here on CC...unless someone objects to leg hair...ewwwww!

This lurker used to post in the old forum occasionally - then a combination of factors (technological ineptness, insane time at work, and kid who was always on line doing apps) kept me from posting on the new board. D finally got me set up last night - feels good to be back!

I probably won't post often even now that I do know how to log in, because I'm not a global thinker and there are only a few topics on which I'd have much of value to share (d's college, how our hs handles the process, maybe a few parenting issues). I think folks would get tired of me posting "Right on!" every time carolyn or interesteddad or one of the many, many other wise folks on the board makes a statement.

"It is better to be thought a fool and remain silent than to speak and remove all doubt" - or something like that.

TheDad ~ email sent, I think. If nothing arrives, let me know.

Got it. Reply outbound.

fair enough ... and I think I'll continue to choose to be counted mostly when I have something unique to add to the conversation.
