<p>I realize that each of these states already has a public school that offers engineering degrees, but there are other states that have more than one public school that offers engineering such as Virginia, Michigan, Florida, and so on.</p>
             
            
              
              
              
            
           
          
            
            
              <p>The UNC system does offer engineering at more than one school.  Besides NC State University, UNC-Charlotte has a large engineering program and East Carolina University has recently started a smaller engineering program.  In NC,  UNC-CH is considered to be more of a liberal arts school.</p>
             
            
              
              
              
            
           
          
            
            
              <p>Each has a public tech oriented counterpart.  OU had OSU.  IU has Purdue,. UGA has GaTech. The decision to have two institutions was made over 100 years ago.  The tech schools became the designated Land Grant college for the state.</p>
