Thanks :)

If you need other people to tell you why you want to go to Penn, why are you applying?

lmaoooooo, amen

It’s really simple, explain WHY you like Penn. Seriously, ask yourself, why am i choosing Penn over some other school? What is it about the school that i like so much?

To tell you the truth, you really should KNOW the school well before you even apply (which would also make the “why x school” much easier). Don’t apply to a school just because everyone says it’s great. Apply to a school that you feel you will FIT in well and thrive, one that you can contribute to while learning from…

Here’s some advice:

Step back for a second and look at yourself. Why Upenn? What does upenn have to offer that any other school doesn’t? How do you see yourself contributing to penn? etc…

I’m not sure if that helps, or if that’s just your typical response or what…but if it does, then good.

The most troubled things I found is that my every reason of why Penn(and a lot other schools) appeals to me seemed not unique and distinctive at all. (I think everyone would have been telling them the same, but essays are supposed to make you special right?)

And another puzzlement is whether I should put in my experience or just my simple reasons? (possibly including a personal experiece narration that makes a certain quality about college important to me?)

Thanks!

The answer to the second question is a tentative “Yes.” It really depends on the story.

No one answer the OP’s original question. There is tons of information about Penn – and why it’s distinctive – on this board alone. Use the search function.

Other ideas:
(1) Read Penn’s website;
(2) Read Penn’s viewbook;
(3) Talk to anyone you may know at Penn.

Good luck, but remember: don’t lean on other people to essentially write your essay for you. As you’ve probably noticed, it’s not well-received.

Yes the essay should make you stand out (if done correctly) because you share with them what attracts you to the school. IF you asked for others to tell you the reasons why, then aren’t you not really showing who you really are?

I really don’t know what else to suggest. Have you actually tried looking through the website? It’s not as overwhelming as you think. You still have a lot of time before the deadline, so go through the website and talk to some penn alums.

Where the heck on the application is a “why penn” essay?

are you applying for the name or do you really want to go there?

you may be applying to penn because you’re a legacy and you think it’s your best shot at an Ivy, or you may be applying because it’s close to home, or for whatever reason. but you need to come up with an original answer to the question. think of it as a game to win.

no really. WHERE IS THERE A WHY PENN ESSAY ON THEIR APP?!

LOL^, the prompt is not exactly 'Why Penn". Its the “how you can contribute to the Penn communities” one.

Haha okay okay I totally thought I missed an essay

I’ll NEVER lean on others to write my essays!! I’m writing what I authentically feel, and if they don’t accept me for who I am, they may be missing out someone or I just wouldn’t be happy there. What I am actually asking is a better way to understand schools, which is answered really well by you guys.

Thanks for all the advice^
