Hello,

I have a question related to the supplementary essays. Most colleges ask the question "Why this college?" Especially the top-notch colleges/universities. In a recent info session I went to, the admission officer explained answers 'not to put.' Of course, the answer may vary from person-to-person. However, I wanted to ask what can a student put down? If I'm particularly interested in a great research program at a particular school and working with a particular professor, can I express that in this supplementary/ optional essay? What were some of your reasons in choosing/applying to a particular college? Some just apply b/c that college is an ivy-league or in the top-20. But others apply for more personal reasons. Please share your experience/ viewpoint to this particular question. Also, what factor (or how much weightage) does the supplem./ optional questions have on an application (to top colleges).

Thanks in Advance! As a rising senior, I just started discovering the details of a college application.
