..why would you pick fordham over other schools?

it's in the city!

maybe it's becuase I grew up at fordham, but i love it. i grew up in the bronx and everyone knows fordham, but recently it has gotten a lot harder to get in. i don't know about lincoln center, but the rose hill campus is absolutley beauitful(MY NEW HOME!). all of the students/alumns absolutley love it and have so much pride to be part of the fordham family. the core is a little crazy but whatever. the classes are small and theres plenty of interships/study abroad. the social life is amazing: between the city and the fordham road bars. i can't say enough about fordham.

Most people go to Fordham because they didnt get into NYU.

busygirl, you attitude is kind of rude..don't you think?

Some people like the campus, the Jesuit education, etc. and your snarkyness is unwarranted

I have read some of your other posts...I can see where you are coming from...don't be suprised if you get other people casting aspersions your direction

rude...eh...i kind of love rude people. they're funny. im rude sometimes.

and you busygirl have spent your short time here disparaging many people...hopefully that doesn't come through to your teachers, and those giving you recommendations, cause your rudeness and meanness shines through loud and clear here at CC...good luck

can't we all get along?

ha!

actually i dont care either way life is built around conflict. bicker away.
i sound evil. im in an odd mood right now.

busygirl, you jsut aren't worth my time, mean girls usually aren't

good luck in wherever you go, but I do suggest trying to make some useful comment once in a while, I am not the only one I noticed who thinks you aren't that clever or funny or mature for that matter

Why Fordham? my daughter picked Fordham as a top school for her (no ranking schools, she is only applying to schools she considers tied for #1)
The Jesuit ideals, in particular as described during the President's Reception. They actually teach all the things she likes - anthropology, biology, medieval studies. They have small classes. They have Irish music on the radio station. The school has kids from all economic backgrounds and different ethnic backgrounds. It's as pretty as ND or Princeton, but in NYC.

Dawgonit, I wish my son had gone to that reception. He's usually swamped w/school and sports and that weekend was just not good timing for us. Does anyone know if there will be anymore organized events at Fordham?

you can take a tour or sign up for an event -though not the reception-for this coming Feb. http://www.fordham.edu/admissions/undergraduate_admiss/index.asp

each college visit obviously shines a light on the school's best aspects. this was the only place that spoke clearly about the development of the self, consideration for others in this world, and the great value in a life of the mind and spirit, instead of a life of (just) hustling for $$.
I was so impressed by the message that I went home and looked at the website for St. Peter's in Jersey City, the nearest Jesuit school to my house. Once my kid is set I may check it out for myself.

Yep. They really pounded that message during Freshman Orientation, and instead of just saying it they put it into action through the core. I would have never in my wildest dreams taken a class on RELIGION... but it ended up being one of my favorite courses. And I thought my math class would be a blowoff... nope, it was pretty hard and I learned a lot... and it was practical, too. Instead of becoming smarter in one particular area you'll be just generally more knowledgable, hah. The Jesuits also seem to despise the concept of specialization, though they understand the need to major.

its because the jesuits pretty much own.

i do love those guys.

$$$$$$$$$$$$

I do not commend any comments that busygirl left, but the only statement I can account for is the one about NYU. It was the top of my list and I sadly got rejected because for Gallatin (the school of individaulized study) they only take a certain amount of fashion journalism majors. Unfortunately, I was not up to par with others applying. So Fordham is my next best bet since they have an individualized major as well. I don't think it's 2nd best to NYU, I just think the schools are very different.

You may be very glad in the end, at least if money matters, or a sense of community. FA is related both to EFC and your GPA/SAT - we know someone with zero EFC who got in but they didn't come close to meeting need. Parents couldn't borrow the funds - child now saddled with huge debt. they do not generate the sense of community people say they find at Fordham, as far as I can tell.

I don't knwo much about Fordham can you guys fill me in?

Need is not a problem for me. My mom told I was allowed to pick any university and she would fund it no matter what. I did the math and technically Fordham is more expensive in NYU in the final calculations. Of course, that still doesn't really change my decision. I really want to spend an overnight at Fordham with any current student (at Lincoln Center). I think it would really help me make a decision.
