Why go to a better med school?

!!!

why is prestige so important for the ROAD? And when you say "private practice", does this include surgery and other such specializations?

Here's a match list from UMDNJ's NJMS program FY2007. Despite not being a top tier med school like HYPS or JHU, the residency match list from NJMS includes ROADs residencies in pretty good schools (JHU and Harvard affiliated hospitals included). This was posted before by Hydrogen3k.

I would note that attending a top medical school also has nothing to do with how good a doctor someone is. I agree patients care little, but even so, they probably care more than they should. Great docs are great for reasons that do not have much to do with their scores on SAT's or MCAT's, grades, research, or other things that determine where they go to school.

afan.....I second you!

i heard that going to a better medical school correlates to a higher salary when you're a practicing doctor. true?

Definitely no, once you control for specialty. Isn't that the whole point of this thread? In fact, within a specialty, it's probably lower. (Higher proportion of academics.)

By the way, on the question of foreign schools – one anecdote seems implicit if you cross-reference these two threads:
