<p>Is SEAS any good? It doesn't seem to place high in any of the ranking systems, especially the US news...jw</p>
<p>SEAS takes in some of the most qualified applicants of anywhere, but the school doesn’t focus on traditional engineering. Many kids do go into traditional engineering, but many go into finance, medicine, law, applied math, applied physics and comp sci phd programs. The school places kids very well on wall street, because banks and investment management firms know they can get highly quantitative and hard working kids who have social skills by virtue of them self-selecting into Columbia engineering. Several of the best kids are lured by the money of wall street, which is fair if you ask me.</p>
<p>Engineering rankings are based on an “industry” perception, not the quality of the students.</p>
