Why haven't I received my merit scholarship yet?

First things first, I understand that the "official" offers of merit aid don't come until March; however, literally every other person I know and have seen on these boards who applied by December 1st has gotten a letter in the mail regarding merit scholarships. Now I applied on December 1st but Miami screwed up somewhere along the way and lost my high school transcript, so I had to send in another one so my application wasn't "complete" until January 13th or something. I was admitted on February 1st (like many people on this board) but, like everyone else on this board, I did not receive a letter 10 days or so later informing me about my merit scholarship.

The website says "priority consideration" for the "full amounts" is given to people who apply by Dec. 1st, which I did, but I haven't gotten a letter. Because my app was late getting "completed," does this mean I'm out of the running for these scholarships? And I should mention that I have a 36 ACT and a 4.0 GPA with the most rigorous course load possible, so I should, by the criteria the website gives, be given full tuition.

I would call or write the financial aid department and ask.

I don’t think you are out of the running. And you are not alone… I think it is just confusing because people were admitted EA back as early as mid December so it is very confusing to infer the timetables of what to expect and when.

My daughter received a web confirm of acceptance on 1 Feb with invitation to Honors, and a large envelope and letter on 11Feb confirming admission and with an invitation to UASP.

My impression is there must be one more letter coming that will have some Merit Scholarship info (unofficial & pending Mar/Apr official info). We have not gotten that one yet either. My daughter has similar stats to yours.

She is trying to be patient and not sweat this since she is super busy with sports/ECs etc now. We are trying to book some college visits though, so some input from Miami would be helpful in that planning. But we’re just going to be patient as I’m sure the letter is coming soon.

Good luck in your decisions and hang in there!

@Parnassus, thanks for that. I thought that I was alone haha. I’m just eager to get that merit scholarship info because it’ll be a huge deciding factor for me come college-decision time.

I agree that you should receive a significant merit award, but I’m not aware of anywhere on their site that says you will get full tuition. I thought it said 1/2 to full tuition. I’m just pointing that out because who gets what seems kind of random, it’s not just numbers.

Since your app was not completed until later, it sounds like they might not consider you officially “applied by Dec. 1.” Good luck though.

My Sons admission Fees was missing and we were told of that close to Jan 11th, once we send the Fees he was admitted and also awarded a Merit Scholarship. Did OP try Contacting the Regional FA officer.?

Yep. Did all that. Called the Financial Aid Office yesterday and was told over the phone what my merit scholarship award is, about 13k a year. I don’t know if that includes the 2k a year from the honors program, but yeah I got my scholarship haha.

Are you IS or OOS? If IS then its pretty close to Full Tuition. I think 2k per year comes under UASP not Honors program. Normally thats extra on top of Merit $$…
