Why I decided to attend Liberty University over all the other schools

@Studious99 I made that comment when the OP had 1 post on this entire forum and that post being this one. Plus, it was just very curious why OP made a statement like “I decided on Liberty over all other schools!” without providing the other school names, their stats, or any info besides the perks of Liberty. It just felt, and still feels like, this post is more to sing praises about the school rather than to be “a real student that wanted to post my journey towards my degree”

@TQfromtheU What major and career are you seeking? My career is already well established as an Application Engineer and I have been quite successful so far with out obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree. I am now looking to complete the unfinished education segment of my career for purely personal reasons and my own amusement as I love a challenge. This degree is not likely to change my income potential as I have already attained the highest possible position amongst my peers.

Best to you, Gaelic, since LU meets your needs for your personal growth. I am glad to see that you are not depending on your degree from LU to provide you with initial career opportunities as a newly minted high school grad would. Enjoy!

@Syrxis It just felt, and still feels like, this post is more to sing praises about the school rather than to be “a real student that wanted to post my journey towards my degree” I assure you I freely choose LU and have no reason to promote that institution other than I developed am appreciation for it in my research and as I ruled out others. If my positive view changes of LU over time I certainly will document it. I did attend another college in the past but did not complete my studies there so I do have some experience making this my second go around.

However, according to the cited oped – which is written by a Liberty representative – the following restrictions still apply:

  • Democratic student organizations will not be officially recognized, and may therefore not use the "Liberty" name
  • Democratic clubs will have no access to university funding;
  • Democratic students may not publicly support certain planks in the Democratic party platform, such as those pertaining to marriage or abortion.

Liberty is a private institution and has the right to impose such restrictions if they wish. However, their policies don’t compare favorably to those of more mainstream private institutions. For example, it certainly doesn’t seem as if the Harvard Republican Club, the Yale Tory Party, the Middlebury College Republicans, or the Columbia College Libertarians are restricted from official recognition or use of school names. Nor do those schools dictate which planks of a party’s platforms may or may not be supported.

@Corbett That is much better then your first post. That being said I am still looking forward to attending LU despite the fact that the Democratic students club will not be officially recognized, and may therefore not use the “Liberty” name. This is balanced in my eyes by the very overwhelming Progressive leanings in most colleges across the USA. I will feel more comfortable studying at LU precisely cause of this. I looked into NYU and Columbia and found those schools particularly to much to the left of center for my personal taste although they are both highly regarded schools. Again this is subjective and one should do their own thorough research and come to their own conclusions.
