I know it is a little early to say that I got into these two schools for sure, but I got likely letters to both, so hopefully that means that I am in, but I wanted to know if I should go to UNC-Chapel Hill or UVa. I know that this is the Virginia board so I am going to post the same message in the UNC board.

Reasons to go to UVa: Access UVa (I thought it was an amazing program but is it only for poor students, I am not rich, maybe I am poor compared to many of the UVa students, but my understanding was that Access UVa was for everyone but it is best for poor students) I am not sure if that made sense, maybe someone can clarify for me. Also UVa is supposed to provide a better education than UNC. Virginia is supposed to be beautiful (so is UNC though).

Reasons to go to UNC: Chapel Hill is better than Charlottesville. Virginia is supposed to be dominated by fraternaties (I don't think that I would like that). Accepts lower scores on AP tests! Virginia wants fives for both Econs! that is crazy! Please add to this list. I am swinging more to UNC because of the whole frat thing at UVa. I think I wouldn't really like UVa people. Especially since such a huge percentage of students come from 100+K homes. I know I am generalizing, but I feel like the students would be very homogenous. Way too much abercrombie and $150 faded jeans. I hear that UVa is very conservative also, but I know that there are also a good share of liberals as well.

first off - you can't go wrong either way, they're both excellent (and congrats)!!
i'm in echol's and got a likely for unc, but i can't imagine myself wanting to go to unc over uva.
it's all really just personal preference and where you think you would fit best. if you find yourself trying to convince others why one is clearly better (even if some rankings list or other people don't agree), then it really just seems like you're trying to convince yourself.
go with your gut and i doubt you'll regret it.

ok, i dont know where you're from. but, i'm an nc girl, and have grown up seeing half the graduating class of every high school go off to unc. it is ridiculously easy to get into unc as nc resident, and therefore puts a huuuge gap (academically speaking) between the average in-stater and the average out-of-stater.
second of all, chapel hill is not that great. true, nc basketball is flipping awesome (especially compared to uva) but still, uva's "corner" is almost as sweet as "franklin street"...sort of
regardless, the level of affluence is the same, dependent on what circles you run with. if you're into greek life, at either school you'll be surrounded by the armani-wearing country-clubbing type. or, you can find a different circle of friends- whatever you want to find, you will find it at either universtiy. however, i tend to believe that uva is far more diverse (ethnically and with respect to backgrounds) than unc for the sole reason that unc is at least 85% instate.
so, make your own choice, visit both schools. but, after having spent extensive time at both universities, uva is by far better academically and socially

by the way, I am from Arizona.

Re. financial aid, both UNC and UVa are similar in that they basically cover the cost of attending if you are poor. In order words, no loans, but at least at UVa, students are not forced into a work-study program. UVa realizes that students should be studying rather than working to pay for college.

Now, if you're a middle class in-state or out-of-state student, here's where UVa and UNC are really different. UVa actually caps the amount of your need-based loans and will cover any need above that with grants so that your debt won't be excessive. UNC doesn't cap your debt.
