Why is a 3.0 too low?

I've seen posts on here that a 3.0 GPA at community college is too low if you want to transfer. I have a 3.1 and honestly, I think that's fine. It's a B!
So will I not get accepted to universities because a 3.1 is too low?

If you’re aiming for the top schools, of course 3.1 might not be sufficient. Also keep in mind that this is CC, our opinions might not truly reflect on the overall criteria; IMO 3.1 satisfies the minimum GPA requirement for most top schools.

^^It really depends on where you’re trying to transfer to and possibly what you are planning on majoring in.

For example, if you’re transferring to a state school with an articulation agreement with your CC, a 3.0 is usually well above the minimum needed GPA.

But if you’re trying to transfer to a top-10 private college, a 3.0 may not be enough simply because these schools typically take very few transfers and they’ll be able to attract relatively many transfer applicants with perfect 4.0’s

As an example, I had a 2.0 from Purdue and a 3.46 from Johnson & Wales this year but got rejected from Rutgers, SUNY Bing, and UMinnesota-TC. So it really depends I guess… Rutgers also told me that they consider the most recent GPA more…
