I read that BU only admits 14% of ED2 Applicants, which is 1/3 the percent of students accepted ED1…can anyone confirm this/explain this? Because I applied ED2 and I am starting to get scared.
Where did you read that? That doesn’t seem to line up with reported stats from last year.

Reported stats from last year are 245/1721 ed2 candidates were accepted, it’s in the 2020 college admissions statistics for ea/ed
The stats from last year seem seem to align with the link above. @IvyHopeful413 it is possible that the applicant pool for ED1 is stronger than ED2. I say that only because the deadline to apply for merit is Dec 1. If a student is going to apply ED and is interested in merit aid, they would apply ED1. Not to say that there aren’t many highly competitive candidates applying ED2 but those that applied ED2 may have waited because they applied ED elsewhere first and have already heard from their first choice ED/ EA schools. I don’t know if BU defers from the ED2 round but it’s also possible they just defer a high number and then will accept them in the RD round? Try not to worry. It’s just a waiting game now. Good luck!

42% ED acceptance rate for the first early decision round. Not 42% overall ED. If that were the case, 1700+ kids would get accepted and the articles says a total of 1190 from ED1 and ED2 will be accepted. The article jumps around a bit but the numbers seem to be:
~4181 ED 1 and 2 apps (this number is provided in the article
~2142 ED1 apps (this # assumed)
~2039 ED2 apps (this # is provided in the article)
916 of 2142 accepted = 42%
1,190 will enroll from ED1 and ED2
274 slots left to be admitted from ED2 (274/ 2039 = 13%)
3500 freshman class/ 35% enrolled ED1 & ED2 is 1190.
Maybe ED I has a stronger applicant pool? Guys stop jumping to conclusions so quickly. (if you are)
it’s more likely that a lot of people who apply ED 2 applied ED 1 to more competitive schools and got denied, leading them to apply ED 2 to BU? Why the university accepted so many people ED 1 (76% of their target ED amount according to the data above) is beyond me, however.
So, do people have a better chance applying RD then?

@yoga99 Statistically, it seems so. But you need to take into account things like competitiveness and stuff. This is information that isn’t released to us.
@GMKoon so do you think that if I have the avg. GPA and slightly lower SAT score avg. do I still have a shot at EDII??

The article states 42% acceptance rate for the first of two ED rounds.
Also, the math doesn’t support 42% overall ED acceptance rate. 42% of 4181 apps is ~1750. The article states they intend to enroll 1190.
@yoga99 I don’t know your profile, but I am aware that colleges evaluate applicants holistically. So you have a chance as long as it’s not TOO low given you have other factors of your application that may balance out the lower GPA/SAT score.
I personally think the acceptance rate for EDII is much lower because it’s in the same round as RD, so BU accepts approximately 70% of its incoming class through RD and 30% of it through ED, so by EDII they probably already are super close to that 30% so they won’t accept as many people EDII
That could be true, but I don’t think that ED II applicants are judged exactly the same way as RD applicants. There wouldn’t be an ED II option otherwise, right?
I am in the same position! Really worried as I thought I would have had a higher chance of acceptance by applying ED II, but it seems I have half the chances compared to if I applied regular decision. I don’t understand why they are accepting such a small amount from ED II it makes no sense to me.
@nicole1308 Most ED II applicants were rejected or deferred from their ED I school. If you are deferred ED II you will be placed in the RD pol.
