Why is CMU's ED rate lower than it's RD rate?

<p>See title.Why is that? I've always thought that it was the other way around--that the ED %>RD %.</p>

<p>Likely, a lot of underqualified applicants apply ED, hoping that it will give them an advantage.</p>

<p>you also have to remember that every admit ED WILL attend CMU. If CMU accepts 20% of the ED applicants, then 20% will attend. If CMU accepts 20% of RD applicants, they’ll be lucky if 10% attend. Thus, they have to accept more RD applicants to fill the class…</p>

<p>Don’t forget that the selectivity of the individual schools varies wildly. MCS and H&SS are is a lot less selective than CIT, SCS, and CFA, but who applies early decision to MCS and H&SS?</p>
