Thats good news for me! Hey allie just out of curiosity, what was your transfer GPA? Any ecs? TAP?

I'm currently a freshman at JC and I'm in the honors program so there is no doubt about it that I will be TAP certified and IGETC by the time i transfer. I am aiming for that 4.0 for sure now!

My gpa was 3.85ish with TAP. Keep in mind that Comm Studies at UCLA DOESN"T factor in TAP for admissions (meaning you dont get the extra points or whatever). What being TAP certified will give you is consideration for an alternate and it will show the Comm department that you took initiative. But just don't apply thinking you'll be automatically accepted b/c of TAP. Other majors really do have this luxury, but comm unfortunately isn't one of them.

As far as ECs, I was Communications Chair for my school's honors student council, of which I was also a founding member. I was also active on the school's student-run magazine my first year. Second year I was editor-in-chief of the same publication as well as layout editor for my school's literary journal. I also tutored English within my school's program for low income and ESL students, but only for one semester. I feel very strongly that my participation in this kind of stuff did have an impact on my acceptance, even though it is largely a numbers game.

My best advice for you is to get involved in things that interest you at your school. If you're really, truly interested in communications, seek out a position on campus that would give you experience, whether it be with the newspaper or radio station or within a club. It will look good on your application but it will also greatly enrich your experience at CC and won't make attending such a tedious endeavor. The semester I was editor of the magazine was the hardest 5 months of my life in terms of workload, but also the most rewarding. I discovered that I'm really not as into print journalism as I thought I was, and now I'm exploring different options at UCLA.

Being involved with honors also gave me a really awesome sense of community that I wouldn't have had otherwise, and now I'm at UCLA with like 12 friends from my CC's honors program.

I'm not meaning to give you a life story, but really, I wouldn't trade in my experience at CC for anything, as anxious as I was to get out of there. I'm much more prepared (socially and academically) for university because of it.

Enjoy your 2 years and good luck with the 4.0. Don't kill yourself over it, but make sure you're above a 3.8. I'm sure you'll be fine.
