Why is Computer Science mainly found under Engineering Departments?

This has always baffled me. I would think that Computer Science would be found under the Sciences department, hence the "science" in CS. Does anyone have a clue as to why CS is found under Engineering at most schools? :-$

Because that’s where it started. Originally, the hardware was built by engineers, and they started programming things to make it work. Also, Computer Science is different from what we traditionally think of as “science” in some ways. It’s more theoretical and math-like than experimental sciences.

Ahh that makes a lot more sense! Thanks :)

It varies from university to university. Sometimes you can find it under both, just as physics often straddles engineering and science colleges. It is more or less an administrative accident where it sits at each university.
