Why is ERC not so good for maths and sciences?

Hi all,

I got admitted to UCSD, ERC, Fall 2017. I hope to major in maths, and minor in economics, possibly do a double major, but I’m not sure yet.

I have heard that ERC is not such a good college for maths and sciences. I have also heard that it is the most socially active college at UCSD. Why is ERC below average for maths and sciences? Would I be at a disadvantage having received a maths major degree from ERC at UCSD, over a different college, whilst applying to jobs or graduate school?

Thank you!

Noone will care what college you were in. The difference is the GE classes you have to take. Read the requirements carefully.

You won’t be at any disadvantage. You’re going to have to take more non-math classes than you would if you were in Revelle (because of the specific general education requirements at ERC), but it’s nothing major or anything should strongly affect your decision to attend UCSD.
