Why is everybody saying CAS is so easy to get into?

I think CAS is the most difficult of all schools in Nyu. If you read the "official Rd thread", you'll notice how many people are applying with the SAT scores far above 2100.

I don't who is telling you CAS is easy to get into. NYU in general is not easy to get into, and CAS is by far not the easiest NYU school. Stats wise, Stern has the highest SAT average, than CAS--both of these schools have higher SAT stats than NYU as a whole. On the other hand, Steinhardt and GSP have lower stats than NYU overall. Tisch and Gallatin seem to be more about the "soft factors".

I turned down 2 ivies (Brown and Cornell) for NYU CAS, and I can tell you there are a lot of high SAT scorers here. The "go-getter" types here tend be pre-law, pre-med, focused toward business/wall st, and seem to major in the "better" departments, e.g. math, philosophy, econ, etc.

Exactly...where are you getting the notion that CAS is easy? Starting rumors, even by titling your post like that, causes commotion.

people thinking its easy = more people applying = lower acceptance rate = good in rankings

let the commotions thrive

hahahahaha...very true!

Yeah, I see what you're saying. I'm applying to CAS myself. First I thought I should chill and not get so nervous about getting rejected but now I see all these posts w/ pple getting over 2100 applying to cas. its scaring me *****less.. agh. Abrich do you think you made a good decision turning down cornell and brown for nyu? i hope you turned them down for stern...i'd literally kills to get into brown.

nyu in general is a easy school to get into as long as your SAT score is decent

Y17K your comment is really unwarranted. I wouldn't be surprised if you see flames after my post. NYU's acceptance rate has dropped SIGNIFICANTLY also an indication that a decent SAT score doesn't neccessarily guarantee admission.

i agree with h20nline, and ha, this i guess is one of those posts he was saying would be 'flame'-worthy.

um, if you've already seen on this board, getting a decent SAT score is not hard. Everyone on here has decent sats scores and i'm sure others who dont visit this forum do as well. I mean, they can't accept everyone, so your statement is really just an ignorant understanding of the admissions process. I mean how do you explain people who have 1800's sat scores and still got admitted.

if * I * got accepted then it really doesn't take much to get accepted

y17k I believe your combined old sat scores are 1500. Clearly it does take much to get accepted. 1500 isn't any ordinary score. If you've looked at NYU's average SAT scores you'll know what I mean. You are a very qualified applicant for NYU. I'm not surpised they've accepted you. Sure there are cases where perfect score valedictorians are rejected, but let me tell you those are rare. I wasn't trying offend you in any way. Just stating my logic of your previous comment.

ooohh, I love the stuff, let's get crazy!! I got banned for 30 days this spring for getting crazy on someone!!! 1st ammendment rules do not apply, hey its a school site, what dd ya think? and as far as NYU being liberal, think again

H20,

As I stated in my previous post, I'm in CAS. I turned down Brown and Cornell for NYU for 2 main reasons: 1. A $15K merit scholarship (money is not is a big issue for me, but $60K over 4 years is a Porsche or down payment on a Soho loft) and 2. My majors are math and econ, where NYU is as good or better than Cornell/Brown.

I know what you're saying re: Brown, it came down to NYU vs. Brown for me since I wasn't all that impressed by Cornell. Brown's an awesome school, but I'm pretty happy regarding my decision to come to NYU. I was waitlisted and ultimately didn't get into Harvard--had I gotten in, there is no question I would have gone there instead of NYU. However, given the choice between a non HYP Ivy and NYU w/merit money, the choice is much harder, and though it's an exception, not the rule, I know quite a few people here in both CAS and Stern who turned down the lower Ivies for NYU.

NJ1: Nothing you said in your rant made sense, and I don't see how it was related to this thread.

A Birch: Would you be willing to post your stats when you went into NYU? I just ask as I am hoping for some kind of scholarship/much financial aid as I really, really want to go to NYU but can't afford it (money's the only thing that kept me from applying ED).

Thanks!

I hope you're enjoying stern. :) My 2 cousins who graduated from Brown were recruited by Goldman Sachs. Do you think you can be recruited by a better company through stern?

Magster: Stats should be in last year's RD thread.

H20: I'm a freshman, so I don't know where I'll be recruited. I currently intern at a boutique investment bank. However, I don't think I want to be a banker. I currently also trade FOREX and futures on my own acct and I'll more likely pursue the trading route. Ideally, I want to work at hedge fund after college (I'm from Connecticut, the hedge fund capital of the world) but it never hurts to get a strong background at a place like Goldman.
