if you don't wanna go to BU, then don't go to BU
doesn't mean that there aren't still tens of thousands of people who apply every year and 4500 people who choose to come here every year
i came because its in boston and has an excellent pre-med program
also has the #7 biomedical engineering program in the country, tons of research and internship opportunities for undergrads, and way more than i could even begin to describe

BU is an academically strong research university. It's a very large school (20K undergrad) in an exciting and vibrant urban location in one of the premier "college towns" in the world, Boston. The College of Arts and Sciences has a deep and broad set of liberal arts disciplines including a very well respected religion department and the Elie Wiesel Center, large and challenging physics and astronomy departments, a great social sciences department, computer science, etc. The engineering school is very challenging and highly regarded. The communications school is one of the best in the nation as is the management school. BU also has a strong health and rehabilitation school, a school of education, a school of theology and one of it's newest schools, is the school of hospitality. The school of general studies is a fantastic program that provides students with a cross-disciplinary introduction into the university. It has top tier graduate law, medical and dental schools as well as the graduate arts and sciences school. The environment is extraordinarily multicultural and draws students from all 50 states and from most countries world wide. Student life is very active with large and active religious organizations (7 chaplains, 30 groups including Christian, Islamic, and Jewish - the Hillel is one of the largest and most active of any college). BU has a new and very large athletic center, is a DIV 1 school with nationally ranked mens and womens ice hockey teams. There are 13 womens and 10 mens varsity sports. Sadly, there is no football team but the ice hockey rivalry with BC is one of the nations' strongest college sports rivalries. You have to be at a BU-BC hockey game to understand! And it's right next to Fenway Park where you can see the NY Yankees beat up the Boston Red Sox in the fall (Go Yankees!).

Those are just some of the reasons to go to BU. There are more.

BU is A LOT better than Rutgers or other schools of that caliber by most standards. Aside from its location and everything else going for it, BU is attached to well regarded graduate and professional schools, it has a wide array of choices for students to explore in terms of academics, it has great academic programs (accelerated BA/professional degree programs, BA/MA programs), and it is ranked in the top 50 universities worldwide in a lot of those ranking, since that is what I assume you based your Rutgers vs. BU comparison. Rutgers usually doesn't even show up in the top 100 universities worldwide on those lists. The US News and World Report has BU a lot lower than many other ranking systems, and it all really depends on the methodology used for ranking. Nevertheless, the ranking systems, as a general statement, do correlate to how good a university is so I'm not saying disregard them...I'm saying look into what YOU want to study and see how that program is at the specific university.

BU has highly ranked SMG, COM, and ENG.
Plus they are quite generous with financial aid packages, and tuition remission for family members of employees.
