Why is everyone getting in?

I applied to LaSalle University and got accepted, they gave me a good amount of money and I was very satisfied with the result. Later I found out, that a girl in my grade, who has sats in the low 900's, and isnt even in the top half of my class also got in. Another girl from my school who's sats are 880 but has a 3.5 gpa because of an extremely easy course load has also applied. Does LaSalle let a lot of people in like that? or is it just early action?

Why are you shocked? LaSalle is a very mediocre school. I just checked its website. It states that LaSalle is looking for applicants "with a solid B+ grade point average, average SAT scores ranging from 1080-1100." Class rank apparently is not a concern. The B+ average begs for an easy course load. Your classmates are exactly what LaSalle is looking for.

I guess I initially regarded LaSalle as much better of a school than it really is.

I'm still going to be ... if the girl with an 880 gets in though.

Apply to more prestigious schools if you are not happy... you still have time

Wow...jealousy sucks...

LaSalle isn't selective at all.

Why do you care if other people get in? It's pretty mean-spirited to hope that other people's college aspirations will be crushed just because you want a self-esteem boost.

Did you like LaSalle for its qualities as a college, or because you thought it was selective? It seems like you should give some thought as to why you want to go there, and if it's really the right choice for you.

It's fair enough for the OP to be considering who his classmates will be, they make the college experience.

wats LaSalle :)
i've never heard of it really

is that out of 2400? or 1600?

LaSalle? Is that in New Mexico?

Never heard of it. Perhaps you fell for the prestige-inflation on their website? SUNY Binghamton claims to be the number 1 Public University according to some insignificant magazine, but that was decades ago; It's completely overrated, but most kids actually buy the things they see on the interwebs.

What's your SAT score anyway? I'm assuming your talking about the 1600 scale- so if your score is around 900-1200, then you have no reason to be surprised.

La Salle is not that prestigious a school and its in a crap area in Philadelphia...Meaning I wouldnt be caught dead walking around there at night or at this point even during the day..Then again most of Philly has turned into a craphole...Its a shame..La Salle used to be a widely respected school in the area...My cousin went there 20 plus years ago and is a very successful doctor now..But nowadays I think its just an average school..If you are not happy with the average student body then perhaps you should look elsewhere..There are plenty of other options out there..Personally I would take Penn State Main campus over La Salle any day of the week..

Apply to Saint Joseph's or Drexel or something. Like MomfromPa said, La Salle is in a crappy area of Philly.

apply to temple. it's better.

Temple is a good school..I graduated from there..I would go there over La Salle but would not live there..Temple in North Phila is again like La Salle in a VERY bad neighborhood..You are fine on campus but walk a couple blocks off campus and you are literally in a combat zone...I made the mistake of parking off campus a couple blocks once and came back to my car with a smashed window and stolen radio etc...If you are commuting and want a nicer campus Temple Ambler is great..I took courses there as well as main campus and preferred it over walking to my car and fearing for my life...I agree with the above poster Drexel has a better rep than la Salle IMO...My sis went to Drexel for undergrad and for her MBA and has a very high paying job now...Like I said explore other options there are many...

"Why" they are getting in is because their SATs fall close to the 25-75 guidelines! Not everyone has stats above 75%, and not everyone is an academic superstar.

agreed not everyone is an academic superstar.. I am new here and have seen a lot of superstars who I dont get me wrong ,respect but many look down on the avg student..I get irritated when I see people who post they have 2400 SAT scores and ask what their safety schools should be..It almost seems ridiculous to me...I dont know why people think a b+ is something to be ashamed of..My daughter has an 89/100 cum GPA and yet she is made to feel like she is a moron...Its sad...

Wow this LaSalle place sounds really bad.

Some of you folks are being a bit mean to the OP. Not everyone is well read about colleges and universities. I know some straight A students who think the local colleges - schools they've heard of - are among the finest colleges in the nation. Pick a state and I guarantee you there are thousands of people who assume their local colleges, schools no one outside the state has ever heard of, are the "Harvard's" of their regions. Why? Most of these kids have parents who don't know any better, and they don't buy/read college guides like Fiske and Princeton Review. Some of these kids attend ratty public high schools that have ignorant guidance counselors who have never heard of Swarthmore or Amherst. The net result is kids who are simply poorly informed. that's no reason to look down on them. They aren't fortunate enough to have people to advise them accurately.

if a girl with an 880 got into harvard and i didn't....i'd be super annoyed/upset/irritated/etc.

i guess even if i got into like a really selective school and then someone else who had done absolutely nothing in high school also got in, i'd feel foolish for having tried so hard for four years when i could have achieved the same result with a lot less effort and anguish.

but if ppl with low stats get into my safeties/less selective schools, i really don't care (as long as i get in too of course lol), it's to be expected. why should it matter so much to you?
