what i meant to say was that the average acceptance rate to hyps was about 9% so a bunch of kids are going to other colleges…ie “9% of the kids go to the hyp they applied to.” (of course that number is difficult to determine as many will apply to more than 1)

was trying to indicate that although op may see alot of posts with higher stats on cc…most kids dont go to hyp so if he/she sifts through the posts he/she may find the info they need… ie memaw suggested some good threads

gadad hit the nail on the head, at least with me. I am a pretty smart guy (I like to think so), and I’m looking at some very selective colleges and agonizing about the process every day. My group of friends, however, is not very smart at all, and they’re pretty superficial and not very future-oriented. They’re fun to be around, they’re fun at parties, etc, but I could never talk about this stuff with them because, frankly, they don’t really care about college. This site gives me a place to talk with other like-minded people about the college application process and my future plans and aspirations.

@gadad - That’s basically the situation. I don’t tell anyone where I’m applying (that’s also to stop the rumor mill), and I can’t complain about my scores or anything or be worried about college admissions because I’m doing comparably well.

I think those students are just obsessed. After all, they’ve been spending most of their waking hours doing something to look attractive to colleges.
