because it’s fun. idk about you, but chem and physics are boring as füçk.

I’m planning on being a premed but being a math and/or biochem major.

Bio is bawring.

Izzy: Won’t the cedilla ruin the pronunciation?

My minor will be math (or possibly physics) because I like what mathematicians are doing.

I don’t like biology because it’s boring, but there are cool cancer courses out there in the biology department. I like chemistry a lot more because it’s interesting. I’m going to be a premed when I go to college too, but I’ll probably end up majoring in Chemistry.

@Izzy: Well, I think bio is boring as ****, and physics is pretty interesting. So there you go. :/

I don’t understand it either. I don’t like biology at all (studied hours and hours for it freshman year because I’m terrible with memorization) and I prefer math and physics over biology. Those two are actually easier than bio to me; chemistry is kind of in the middle. You don’t need to use your brain much to memorize things, as opposed to solving problems, which requires actual thinking. (They both require a lot of work, though…)

I’ve always wanted to major in biology. When I was a child, it was because I love animals; when I got older, it was because I loved the subject in school. The problem is that I’m not sure what kind of career I want to go into or exactly which branch of biology I want to further pursue.

^you do have to do a lot of higher level thinking though (in fact, a lot of it) if you’re going for the more research oriented route for biology.

Basically my story, too. And I’m thinking of minoring in math because I need something that’s challenging in a more abstract way. I like the balance – biological research is a concrete challenge; math is an abstract challenge.

Are they?

I used to want to major in marine biology, but then Shamu started killing everybody.

Animals are alright, but taking them apart just doesn’t appeal to me :/

maybe because Biology is an instresting major. Bio is a very popular degree, but many don’t make it past junior year.

Boring as foosk? Hm, interesting. I like Biology, it fascinates me more than the others, and Physics seems way too complex for what it teaches/preaches or yearns to make sense of.

Anyone who thinks biology is necessarily easy knows nothing about computational neuroscience, or even about neuroscience in general.

And why do you think medical school has achieved notoriety for its difficulty?

i suppose the cedille would ruin the pronunciation, technically, but i still got my pont across

as for other subjects, i didn’t mean to diss yours. I would love to be good at mathematically-based things, but i’m not [though for some reason i’ve always done very well on math exams- probably just because i study a lot more for those than for tests]. I think part of it is that I also need to be interested- and I am very interested in biology. Memorization isn’t that bad. And i plan on taking AP bio later on.

That doesn’t make biology hard, that makes neuroscience hard. Similar line of thinking:

Computability Theory is hard => Math is hard => I’m smart because I know addition

Because a lot of people that are terrible fits for the profession think it’s a prestigious job? Because organic chemistry is hard for people that just love animals?

i was actually wondering why everyone is majoring in agricultural education. granted i live in the field

More like:

Computability Theory is hard + Some math = Computability Theory => Not all math is easy => I’m not necessarily incompetent because I majored in mathematics
Ah, good point.

Well, majoring in bio with an intent in pre-med is demanding… I mean the life of someone is literally in your hands. You are the factor in saving lives. That’s pretty difficult. The knowledge you need to know by pure memory alone is reason for its difficulty.

On the contrary, I can remember the facts well enough. I just prefer theoretical math and theoretical computer science.

^ i used to like the crazy math stuff just for the awesome symbols they use.

Most if not all is greek. But yeah, I mean Paul Erdos is enough to make math crazy.
