*** I don't get it!!! I'm considered smart but when I come here I feel like crap. How do you guys manage your school stuff with the rest of your life and stil have the time to ace your SATs. Don't you guys have time to do/worry/indulge in the regular high school stuff like drugs, chicks, sports, booze, cars, etc.???

Don't be so naive! They all lie about their stats ;)

Obviously, CC is not representative of the high school student population. Don't feel bad. This is only a small proportion of people that you cannot compare yourself to.

think of it this way: these people surf a COLLEGE ADMISSIONS forum on their FREETIME.

LOL. IVYPoison is right. Most people on here surf CC in their freetime. Do you really think they're "getting perfect scores x3"? I hate when people write "800x3". It sounds arrogant when you shorten everything to people you don't know.

Anywho, if you live your life by standardized tests, you're going to have an awful life. Stop using quantitative measures and start doing stuff you like... connect with other human beings. Enjoy the life experience. You'll be much happier making 40K/yr being successful with yourself than making 200K/yr and comparing your success to everyone else's. Tha latter is just an awful way to live life.

i will guess around 40-60 percent of these stats are fake either written by freshman, or people just curious to see which stats will increase their chances of acceptance

^^ i agree. i found some who are pretty unbelievable or exaggerated to the point of fabrication.

and regarding the ones who don't lie, it's pretty clear that they really want to go to a good college and take their studies very seriously.i mean, just refer to IVYpoison's post.

depends who you ask...

to the OP... I live with little sleep... no time to go out, do sports, procrastinate, do homework, do clubs

"Don't you guys have time to do/worry/indulge in the regular high school stuff like drugs, chicks, sports, booze, cars, etc.???"

Yes, I do (well, not drugs...but I compensate with more drinking).I have plenty of time to go out and I still do very well in school (though I'll admit that I don't sleep much as a result, since I end up doing a lot of work late into the night). Everytime I see some poor sucker with a five-page resume, I think to myself: "Man, if that kid only did half the stuff he's actually done, he could have a semi-normal social life and still get into an Ivy League school." And every time I see a 2400, 4.0 reject, I know it's not because they're underqualified. It's because they're one-dimensional, and have no personality or life outside of schoolwork.

^Yeah, well Reeze, this year, that's sort of what happened. . I'm spending a whole lot of more time in the library this 2nd semester than I've done in the past 2 years of high school. Me and the librarian are best buds now, no kidding. it's kinda sad. In fact, I'm posting this in the library, skipping a bs class period, to write a research report due by midnight. no friday social life for me. :(

I doubt that the percentage mentioned above actually lie about their stats. You have to be already somewhat motivated to frequent a college discussion forum anyway, so lying will defeat your purpose and waste your time.

Some people on CC complain about getting 2000+ on the SATs. If I score a 2000+ I would buy all of you a Mercedez Benz (and for the people who don't drive, a I-pod/Xbox 360).

Nobody on CC is really amazingly smart. Granted, there are a few special kids who just showed up on test day and dialed toll free the whole way through, but most of the kids with insanely high scores are very industrious and want to study at the college of their choice. Like somebody already pointed out, we speculate endlessly about random facets of the admissions process in our spare time.

Swallow your pride, don't let your lip react,
You don't wanna see my hand where my hip be at,
Understand me son, I'm the slickest they is,
I'm the quickest as they is, did I say I'm the slickest they is? :p

CC is a resource. Use it as you may.

Hmm, you know what I realize this site is bad for me and for everyone else because I feel that it's a waste of time and very addicting. This site also makes me feel somewhat bad because I don't like being compared, but yep you're right this only represents the small portion of high school students. No offense, I think alot of these kids seem to have the same stats. Good grades, same clubs *key club, NHS, and sports, and high sat scores. It seems to me they don't have a passion or a hook that makes them stand out.

In the end, I also believe that you can be the smartest person in high school and go to Stanford,Yale, or a great college but if you're not motivated and don't use what you learned there then it was waste of time and money. For example, my stepsister had an interview with a Harvard grad. My family ended up finding out that the interviewer was a golfer for the senator Bob Beers. There was this guy who graduated at USC but ended up working at Barnes and Nobles. This just proves my point, but don't get discouraged think positive and be yourself!! ; D

"If I score a 2000+ I would buy all of you a Mercedez Benz (and for the people who don't drive, a I-pod/Xbox 360)."

Seems like the people who don't drive are getting a raw deal...unless "Mercedez Benz" is one of those knockoffs sold in China.

Because just about everyone on here, as one of the moms said, is trying to obtain acceptances to the top schools, which have applicant pools comprised of the best in the country.

actually... many people on here do NOT lie about their stats.
I know a couple of people here with amazing GPAs, excellent SAT scores, awesome ECs, and have a social life. And yes, more of a social life than some people who don't spend a lot of their time with school and stuff.
This site helps people prepare for when they apply/get into college, and I find it very useful. If you're on here, despite what you're stats are, you already show that you care - which is a good thing.
There's always going to be people of a different league. But most of the time, they won't be competeting with you for the same schools, so it doesn't make sense to worry about those people. It's like animals occupying a different niche, they really don't affect each other.
Don't be discouraged by those with higher stats, but also, don't hate them because they have higher stats or say they don't have lives. It's simply not true, and you don't want to come off as being bitter.
Like I said, it's great that you care enough already to be on here... think of it as a learning experience for yourself instead of a competition.

I wouldn't say there is a lot of fake stats going around, but there is some. The majorty of the time they are rather easy to pick out. You have to realize your on a website about college admissions. If students come to this site to talk about admissions advice, obviously school is of importance to them. I have 1200 post, and you think I talk about college for fun? :) . Point being your at a website that is related to college admissions, so obviously it's going to direct a certain crowd.
