No really why is everyone so smart on this thing, you make 2100+ SAT and 4.0 UW GPAs look soooo easy. Yay for being average hahah

It’s probably at least 30% lies. I would say that the rest of the cause is a sample bias stemming from the fact that a lot of people refrain from posting because normal stats are often met with a certain CC brand of hostility. CC is like eating ice cream with bugs in it: if you can eat around them, you’ll be fine.

lol, it’s a website dedicated to college. why would someone make an account and spend time here if they weren’t “top”

and no, it’s not easy. you should see the threads concerning sleep and all nighters ;)

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out a lot of people lie on here. I guess it makes them feel better about their mediocre grades or something.

^haha you should go to the chance boards

ok then this website is obviously failing at fullfilling objective, giving people false impressions about who really applies, and who they’re up againstttt lol

I’ve never had hostility directed towards me for my average stats outside of the chance forum, which I suggest avoiding at all costs. But the reason most people seem to be so smart is that most people who bother to register to post are overachieving students applying to top universities or their helicopter parents. There is also the lying factor.

Well the people who post on this type of website are the ones who tend to do well anyway. People also tend to lie, embellish, or inflate their grades. So basically I agree with everyone who already posted.

I’m below average by CC standards, but I signed up because I like the atmosphere. There’s something nice about a forum dedicated to overachievers, especially since I come from a school where kids think anyone who likes learning is weird.

Based on my lurking, I think most people aren’t brilliant geniuses (although some are), they’re just passionate about school and put in the hours to achieve their goals.

Self selection. People that have good grades/test scores also tend to be interested in college issues.

There’s not a lot of content on this site that would entertain stupid people.

Even the main color is a homely shade of beige. Blegh.

[persona=TCBH]Mine is gray[/persona]

yeah i’m like a homeless idiot who collects cans for money compared to these genuiseusisesiusz

Don’t be embarrassed. As said above many of the people here on CC care about college so many of them work hard to be above average. Also, not everything on CC is a 100% true. Looking at actual statistics published about test scores compared to what people on CC say…they don’t always match up.

There’s an ambiance of hostility surrounding this thread…and this topic.

I suppose it’s always like this. People are jealous creatures. While I myself have never started a chance thread, I read through a couple. Frankly, they’re not that impressive. I won’t even get into how an SAT score of over 2100 isn’t particularly difficult given some effort (for most. Somehow, I feel compelled to add that.)

This fits perfectly: “Haters gonna hate”

@Daimyo: =correct.

And there’s also the factor of people not posting totally accurate information. There’s even advice in the rules that tells you smudging around a bit is fine. bumping 3.9 to 4 or 3.8 isn’t that big of a deal.

But it seems that you guys think people would seriously create a CC account just to post totally inaccurate stats…that’s pretty ludicrous. There’s always exceptions, but that’s just what they are: exceptions. Most people here are relatively sane.

^ that sounds like a rational evaluation. I liked DAIMYO’s post too.

I agree with daimyo about the whole atmosphere thing. I find some pretty useful information on here once in a while, it’s pretty entertaining when I’m bored, and those kids who freak out about their 2390 not being quite high enough and debating whether or not they should retake it kind of amuse me. Sometimes I can’t help but roll my eyes at some of the ignorance I come across, but whatever. Early on I was really hard on myself and compared myself to every single perfect profile I saw on here (made up or not), but now that my head’s back on straight I just lurk on certain forums whenever I have a random question about the whole college process :)

some of it may be lies…another chunk of it is the fact that those who use college confidential are most likely students who are highly motivated and a highly motivated student usually equates to an academically successful student

Not exactly sure but it makes me feel dumb at times! There’s people on here who claim to have taken my current math class (algebra 2) as a freshman rather than what I am now (junior). It’s ridiculous! Especially the people who are taking seven APs in one year and I’m just like, "I’m taking 5 or 6 APs during my entire high school career…

Taking algebra 2 as a freshman isn’t all that ridiculous. At least 20 kids did it at my school, then after they take pre-calc/trig, AP Calc BC and then Calc 3 at the university. Different schools have different curricula. Taking 10+ AP courses over your junior and senior year isn’t that far fetched either.
