Why is first person pronoun looked down upon?

I realize that using sentences like "In my opinion...." or "I personally believe that...." severely weakens your essay. However, if used correctly, it can be a great example to use for your paragraphs. I say this now; Use of first person pronouns as a way to defend and argue your point of view on an essay is completely valid and legitimate. This is not my opinion; It is an established fact. They (teachers, graders, etc.) don't just say "It's okay to use 'I' on an essay" for no reason. They say it because it's valid.

And for those of you that hate the "fine prints"; Re-read the instructions for the essays carefully. You'll notice at the end, it (usually) says, "Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observation". Keyword: Your.... experience, and/or observation.

And while this may be a complete matter of luck, I have gotten plenty of two digit scores on my essays with a killer example taken from my past.

So why is the use of first person pronoun looked down upon?

Because adding a personal flair to an argument lessens its credibility. There are better ways to phrase an anecdote to make it appear more universal.

It’s not using personal experiences, but being personal that hurts an argumentative essay.

I used first person in my essay and I scored a 9. Not the best score, but I didn’t get penalized for it.

On the BB there is an example of an essay that got 12 , about a student that was to stress out. So you can use your own life experiences just write them well
