how does Gtown compare to GWU in politics. Don't they have crossfire on the GWU campus??? Also, one friend chose GWU law over Georgetown Law center. For law, are the two schools comparable?

Georgetown Law is ranked 15 by USNews. Not sure about GW. Georgetown is consistently known as one of the top schools for law. Not sure about politics. Isn't Crossfire being cancelled?

Politics are a big part of G-town, we are currently in tgeh process for getting a 40 K grant for our student organization to save Darfur, from MTVU and Reebok. Around elections the campus was on it's nerves. As far as LAw is concerned, undergraduate calsses in intl law, one of the proffessors is one of the top 5 intl lawyers in teh world, he is an antartica specialist, currently fighting for that at the ICJ. Poly-Sci per se, is not my strong point, but the govt department boasts ppl that have or still work on the hill, in the whitehouse, or other agencies. I can't give you a rank number, but Georgetown has amazong opportunities.

yes, Crossfire is getting cancelled, and good riddance. Likely Jon Stewart's appearance was the straw that broke the already-moribund camel's back.

hoyadan, that's very noble of you. i hope it works out

I like inside politics though :)

Sorry, I apologize, I'm SFS, domestic politics are just as string, about every week congressmen have press conferences on campus, or rallies, they are usually really early in the morning, but I went to Hillar Clinton's talk about social security, and we were competing for questions with the media. It was really awesome.

GTown is not ranked low at all, u think 25 is low? there're sooo many schools in U.S.. and yes, the peer-accessment score kinda sucks, but still great.

just b/c GTOWN is a private school and u have to pay more for it does it mean it's gotta be better than UVA, UMichigan and UCBerkeley?

i almost applied for Gtown, but it's 20 minutes away from where i live.

no one ever said that's why it's better than 25...

I bet the use of Adjunct Professors, Financial Endowment, and the Alumni Giving Rank is what gave Georgetown the plunge in rankings. Actually, that's what my USNWR says.

Pish posh. The # of adjunct professors determine the quality of the school? mumbles something about how the world of college admissions is getting more and more obscure

the peer-accessment has nothing to do with financial endowment, and alumni giving rank....................it's solely based on education. GT wouldnt break in top 20 whatsoever

Look, there's no need to get into some big argument (about the fact that ThomYorke is wrong, mostly). For whatever reason, Georgetown's US News rank is not indicative of the quality of the school. Most people - although not all - are aware of the fact that it is one of the best schools in the country (...and any guy who has been on campus knows the quality of the girls alone should put it in the top 10.)
But if you don't think Georgetown should be ranked higher than it is, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. For the record though, this board is probably the wrong place to voice that opinion.

"and any guy who has been on campus knows the quality of the girls alone should put it in the top 10"

top 10 for colleges with the hottest girls, not its undergrad education.

lol dude it was just a joke

And even if Georgetown isn't top 10 for undergrad education, I think it's definitely top 20.

They should take the Peer Assessment out of the ranking system. Or at least kick it down a notch. Right now, peer assessment counts for 1/4th of the entire USNWR ranking system.

its really because of endowment. when looking solely at academics georgetown would place higher

Um, even the USNWR admitted that the peer assessment thing counts 1/4th.

but peer-accessment is the only factor that has something to do w/ the education. and GTOWn didnt ace it. all other factors are crap: yield, acceptance rate......nothing to do with academics

Geogrgetown is so UNDERRATED

i don't really think gtown is underrated. i still hold it in very high regard. when i think of georgetown i think of one of the most prestigious universities in the country. if you asked someone which university was more prestigoius, cmu or georgetown i'd think 99% of the time the answer would be georgetown.
