OK, So I'm not a big fan of rankings either but I need to know more regarding this fact.

In engineering and sciences, I agree that these two could not be more equal but when comparing the overall universities, what gives GTech an edge over UIUC ? What makes it get ranked some 10~15 places higher than UIUC ?
After all, UIUC is a much bigger university with a much broader range of departments and programs + it has a much better outside-the-classroom scene.

In a nutshell, engineering aside, what sets Tech apart (and makes it better) from UIUC ?

I can’t see this year’s scoring, but historically the result is that Tech has better peer review scores, higher alumni giving, and better counselor scores.

But really that’s not very accurate and an example of why USNWR rankings are not that great. A school with 2 major programs that do them both very well will score higher than a school with 10 major programs that do 2 very well. At the end, if you’re an engineering major, who cares what the Veterinary School is ranked at UIUC (other than the overall rankings, which indirectly include that)?

I also disagree with that “outside-the-classroom” comment, but that’s more subjective than anything else.

It isn’t, plain and simple.
