Why is it difficult to enter into a communication in SDSU

I have spoken to many counselors in Palomar college however they all tell me that it is difficult and discourage me to try to enter in SDSU. I’m aware they mostly accept “in region” transfers or by the TAG program(if the major is not offered a 4yr university in your region). I really want to be a speech communication major and I feel like the classes in SDSU fit my interest.

I spoke to a transfer center counseler who told be about attending a community college that is in the region of SDSU to obatin an associate degree in communication so that my chances can be higher to be accepted.

Any suggestions?

Priority is given to transfer applicants that attend CC’s in the SDSU service area so if possible I would try to attend the following CC’s:
SDSU local admission area community colleges are Cuyamaca, Grossmont, Imperial Valley, San Diego City, San Diego Mesa, San Diego Miramar, and Southwestern.
