Why is it taking so long...

Ohh ok. I can’t remember if I already knew you were deferred. But I hope you get to go up!

alongwait- yay thank you! now I feel a little more confident of my stats cause I have a 3.4 also  how does she like it there?

She is a hospitality major, so it was the logical choice for her. The student body is just so big and there is not as much of a tight knit feel, but she likes her classes and professors. The internship opportunities are endless, and you can ALWAYS find things to do in Orlando!

It may or may not help, but one thing she did was to send and email and a letter stating how much she wanted to get her foot in the door at UCF and her reasons why. You never know… Good Luck to all of you still waiting. You are close to a decision now, either way. Hang in there!

Yeah, we’ve all gone the email route by now xD Just unclear, unoriginal messages D:

Yeah I’m sending in my first recommendation and a letter from myself (LOCI) on Monday. Wish me luck!

How do you go about writing that? Who do you send it to? And when can you send it (before your app)? Anyone care to share one? Lots of questions but I’m really interested in writing one.

Yeah I mean it’s generally something people do if they have been waitlisted or deferred from law school and sometimes people send them if they have been waiting for an abnormally long period of time. They say it’s a slippery slope sending one in before you get any word back though, but I don’t think I have anything to lose at this point. Anyways, obviously some people use them to get into college too. It’s just a “letter of continued interest” where you express how much you want to get into the university, update them on things you’ve accomplished since submitting your application and blah blah blah but it wouldn’t make sense for you to do one or even be thinking of one until you are in fact deferred, waitlisted, and maybe if you’ve been waiting a long time for a response. But keep it in mind if you are. This tells you more :

My daughter is also doing the waiting game … in fact she was so positive she wasn’t getting in to UCF she responded to FAU’s acceptance letter - I’m now into FAU for $400 in deposits. But now I see some of the stats of students being accepted, and I’m wondering if we jumped the gun. My daughter has a 3.67GPA (unweighted) with AP, Honors, and Duel Enrollment classes. Her SAT super score is 1050, ACT 20. She’s been Varsity Cheer for 3 years, Senior Class Vice President, has a part time job and many volunteer hours. She was accepted by FGCU, FAU, UNF; and turned down by USF and UF. UCF is the only one left. Oh, and I don’t know if it matters, but we’re not Florida residents. How do you guys think she stacks up … too many posts here to read them all.

your daughter has a decent chance of getting in FAUMom, i think you did jump the gun early. Her stats are around the same as mine and I got in. I think she will get in

@Miami … that’s what I was afraid of … but we’ve been waiting since November! When did you apply? I thought you got rejected and you were appealing the decision? Did they reconsider?

I applied October 31st… still waiting. There are a lot of people still waiting so I assume it gets more competitive as time goes by. But it is usaully more competitive for OOS residents as well so I think you probably made the right decision because housing is starting to fill up at all schools .

@Mayday … that’s why we accepted FAU’s offer - for fear of losing out on the housing … I can’t let her live off campus, we don’t know a soul in Florida (especially around Boca).

And I think the process would move faster if people would contact UCF that were accepted and are NOT going there. The tendency is not to burn any bridges and let the offers wait until every acceptance/rejection is received. I know we haven’t let FGCU and UNF know she’s not going there, so if they have a wait list those kids will be waiting until we respond, or May 1st. That’s why UCF can’t let anyone know on the wait list if they’re in or not until May.

Exactly. I still can’t believe that UCF doesn’t have some type of system in place so that they can get decisions out within a reasonable amount of time. I just don’t understand how people that applied in August- Nov are STILL waiting for an initial decision (not even deferrals) and it’s basically April. It so nerve-wracking! I also don’t see how it helps us (they say time allows for optimal consideration of the applicant) given the fact that the longer they wait to decide, the more applications they receive which makes the applicant pool more competitive! :frowning: By waiting on their decision I am jeopardizing my housing eligibility at USF as well as at UCF if accepted. It will be a mess if I am accepted to UCF and I accept the offer (like I plan on doing) only to find out that the housing there is full. :/

Wow, I haven’t been on here in so long! OH and still waiting for a response–surprise, surprise.

@mellorine, I applied in early January, prior to being accepted into the UCF Conservatory Theatre’s BFA Acting program. There was a major issue with them receiving my transcripts from my current university…I had to sent them about four or five times. FINALLY I called to confirm that they had received them in late February before spring break. Well, after I came back from spring break in the middle of March, I still had not heard anything from them. So I continued to pester their admissions office–and I must agree with Estelle on this one, they are INCREDIBLY rude and not helpful whatsoever. Had it not been for the fact I got into the BFA program, something I really want to do, I would’ve stopped considering UCF just based on how disorganized they are and how rude and not helpful everyone I’ve spoken to has been.

Anyways, at this point, they tried to tell me that they hadn’t received my transcripts until March 7th, even though I called TWICE to confirm with them that they had received them back at the end of February. So technically it was three weeks Monday since they’ve had my whole “admission” package. However, it STILL states on the myUCF portal that “An admission decision is being deferred pending on receipt of all transcripts,” even though I KNOW they have them at this point…

My mom has actually been in contact with someone who is actually nice and helpful (Oh, my! At UCF, no way!!!) through the transfer department, and she’s going to try to get question around and see what is taking so long with my decision. However, I am worried because apparently those with AA degrees as transfers are pretty much guaranteed acceptance into the school. I WILL NOT be transferring with an AA degree–close, but no cigar. So, I think I automatically have a lower chance, and a MUCH greater chance at NOT being accepted at this point. I think it will be a space issue for me…like I feel like I’m going to be denied admission because they don’t have enough space, despite my stats.

…and if that’s the reason I can’t be in the BFA Acting program I’m going to be so incredibly devastated.

This whole process is daunting to say the least … My daughter was originally deferred for USF (her #1 choice) and her guidance counselor told her not to worry, she has never seen anyone rejected from a deferral. Well, I guess my daughter was the first because we got the “thanks, but no thanks” letter from them a couple of weeks ago. Then UF rejected her last week 3/25 (her #3 choice) and that sent her head spinning… we just assumed that UCF’s criteria was somewhere in the middle of USF and UF and that she would not get accepted (her #2 choice) So we told FAU she would attend in the Fall and sent the deposits …BTW she is applying as a Freshman, I see some of you are transfer students, so we’re talking apples and oranges - the number of seats available in each class differ. Now I’m seeing a couple of people on this post have similar scores/GPA’s and some have been accepted, some rejected, and most of you haven’t heard yet. I put a call into an admission counselor’s phone mail yesterday, but haven’t heard back from him … I’m not surprised.

Most of you sound like you’re from Florida … so what’s the story with FAU, did we make a poor choice???

Well it’s not as good as a school as UF ,USF, or UCF academically, but it’s not a bad school. I hear its somewhat of a commuter school though, but it’s still growing. And I’m not sure if you guys knew (based on her being surprised that she didn’t get into UF after being rejected from USF) but UF is the toughest school to get into in Florida and FAU and FIU are easier schools to get into than schools like FAU and FIU.
Ohh and I’m also a freshman applicating btw (:

I live in Boca, where FAU is located and yes, it is a bit of a commuter school. I know a lot of people at my school who are going to be commuting to FAU next year. It’s definitely growing though – I heard this year they got twice as many applications as last year. I honestly don’t know much about the academics there or the campus, but it’s in a very suburban area unlike schools like UCF that are located in cities where there is a lot to do.

I am an applying freshman.
And yes, UF is the hardest school to get into. (florida wise)
I’m kinda glad I don’t have my sights set there…wowzers.
Especially since UCF…i don’t even know :(

still no response :(

@ FAU mom,Gahh I messed up. I meant *FAU and FIU are easier schools to get into than USF and UCF.
@Stability, I’m glad I didn’t either. I didn’t like it when I visited . Yay me.
