Haha Omg it better be worth it lol. Did he get accepted yet?

Blue these ARE the people that “deserve” to get in, but remember they look at four years of work mostly not just a midterm transcript so doing anything now is futile…unless of course you destroyed the SAT then I don’t see why it’s taking so long. Good luck to all!

@ MAVI meant “he” better be worth it not “it.”

@Kervin, and yea exactly, I agree with the fact standardized tests are good things to have because everyone goes to different schools and has different opportunities, but I don’t agree with emphasis being placed more on the test(s) than on grades. Schools can say they “weight them both equally " or that” more emphasis is placed on grades "all they want to, but the fact that I’ve been deferred (and will ultimately be rejected if I don’t improve my scores) from both FSU and USF solely because of my test scores proves those statement’s falsities.

True true true, but the fact of the matter is that the tests are the same throughout the country and the curriculum taught is not. I know this does not give a clear picture of the student as a whole, but they may (keyword “may”) indicate potential strengths and weaknesses. Grades are important, but this girl transferred in from Wisconsin last year to Florida(where I live) and she went from having a 4.0 to a 2.7 there are cases to support this and there are cases to argue it. Just got to try to do good in both areas.

hes a freshman this year.

and yeah we’ve been together for about a year and half now and I was just down there with him a month ago

No I agree Kervin. My math score DOES indcate weakness, but I do not think that this weakness should deny me from college. I have also shown improvements in my grades from 9th until now, as well as good grades in everything else from two different institutions- one of them being a college (4.0 GPA) which atleast somewhat proves that I can handle college level coursework. While I agree that tests are useful, they also shouldn’t rule a person out, and neither should grades.

Well I’m just saying I don’t want someone (obviously not anyone on here) who didn’t try in high school and just got by to be given the exact same things that I am (i.e. admission) so to me if someone has bad grades they should be denied. Test scores are another matter because that just shows timed intelligence while grades show work ethic as well as ability to learn, but seriously how would you feel if someone with a 2.0 got in before you?! I do believe that isolated incidents should be taken into account though like one or two bad grades or one bad section.

I don’t think one weakness should deny you from college. I’m pretty bad at math too (I passed alg II/trig barely, but NYS the alg II regents has like a 55% passing rate) but I’m an extremely strong english and history student and okay at science. My major has NOTHING to do with math besides maybe some budgeting things (event mangement) , therefore why should it even matter? UCF isn’t a very prestegious school.

^ Same here. I wouldn’t major in anything that has to do with math .And Ya I’m just saying that everyone should be looked at objectively. I hate how people with lower GPA’s can get in with high test scores . Your GPA reflects 4 years of work whereas test scores usually reflect a lot less . But like you said, some schools could just be really tough so I don’t want to count EVERYONE in that situation out.
And schools like FSU and others **** me off. Like the minimum requirements for English and Writing are like 18 on ACT but 21 in math. I know the US wants to be the BEST in everything and we are supposedly (on average )far behind in our math intelligence (compared to like China),but that still isn’t fair. Every class, every street sign, building, book, text message,t-shirt etc. requires you to read. You can go a long time and a long way in college and in this world without being good a math, but being bad or deficient in English will hurt you. Idk, I just see less of an excuse to be worse in English than in math (except for people who speak ESL), but of course I’m biased. They can at least make it fair. 21 minimum for English 21 for Math and so on. Luckily, UCF claims to not have “minimum requirements” but they obviously look for certain scores.

Its ridiculous. I love UCF but I’m going to be really ****ed if I’ve waited all this time and I get denied. Thats like a giant slap in the face.

:/ You were deferred though right ? It’s going to be even worse for me though… since they haven’t accepted or declined me yet… it’s like they’d be getting hopes up for nothing. Like they made me think I had a chance as I was … like without improvement which (i think ) is what they feel when the defer you. Although I know I need to improve my math score, and I will … (:

Exactly I don’t think one or two deficiencies should deny you, but seriously if you’ve worked hard and didn’t slack off you should e able to get into any college you want…I’m just saying it’s kind of annoying when my friends who slacked off during high school are all of sudden interested in going to college and try so hard when they could have started earlier. Tests scores are another matter that are greatly overweighted. Good luck to you both!!

they’ll probably wait til UF decisions come out. Like most people, UCF is my second choice to UF. For some people it’s FSU or an OOS college.
hang in there!

Thank you! Yeah I got deferred for my SAT scores. I don’t even know my new ones yet. I think the reason my SAT scores matter so much to them is that they can’t compare my grades to grades from kids down there because our education is run a lot differently. But how much do they expect them to improve? I mean i studied for them but it’s not like I completely deadicated myself to them.

What were your scores?

My old ones were math-470 c/r- 500 and verb- 480. My ranges for verb and c/r were in UCFs middle 50 range so I’m hoping I broke into them. If I could guess my new scores it would be like
math- 500
c/r- 540 maybe
verb- 540

Did you apply for summer? I think you have a shot but it is a littler harder for OOS

No fall, but everyones considered for summer anyways.
I thought it would be easier considering oh you know paying 32,000 a year. ahahhaha

I really don’t wanna go for the summer, it’s too expensive- it would be 15,000 for OOS. But I’ll do what I have to, just not happily or cheaply.
When does summer even start?

I remember hearing like June 28th but I’m not sure.

hey, i emailed ucf admissions regarding my application status since it’s been so long. I’m still awaiting a reply. just thought i’d give a heads up.
