Why is it that this site is so "ivy-exclusive"? (Part 2)

This thread is a continuance of the once-popular, now unfortunately-closed "Why is it that this site is so "ivy-exclusive"? ENJOY!

as we were saying before, this site represents a fringe group of high school students.

They certainly are above average, but i'd say most are still nervous due to the intricacies and randomness of Ivy admissions

Argh, so it was closed eh? 85 posts, nice job BLH! I'm glad people finally agreed with my numerous rants about it going off topic.

Anyway, "...this is full of so many geniuses simply because they're the ones who care about their college admissions."

The thing about this comment is that I have wonderful credentials (in my opinion) yet compared to everyone else here, I suck. However, even with my credentials, I look at this site. I am surprised more "average joe" people are not posting much here.

Yeah, some moron closed down the thread... though it did get quite out of hand, even racist! That's not what I wanted... this thread should stay on topic, and if it doesn't, at least stay within the boundaries (i.e. no racism)..

I agree with you there.

Say again how almost everyone at this site is really above average so I can feel better... heh.

almost everyone at this site is really above average

Yeah this site made me go from feeling fairly smart to dumb. My guess is only people who are really into the whole college admission thing find this site. I'm sure the majority of those people also happen to be very smart, or they wouldn't bother wasting their time. As for me, I was very bored, and I'm wondering my possibilities of what I'll be doing next year and found this message board. I never thought there were so many people getting 1500+ on their SATs.

bump-bump-bump

This site has crushed my hopes and dreams of getting anywhere. I'll see you all at UCI.

Don't let the arrogant attention wh*res discourage you from your goals

Best of luck to you :)

Really, I've checked as much as I could on the internet. There are some other forums, like PR, but this is the only one with so many people, so good credentials. But think about it anyway. There are 1000 places at Harvard, 1000 at Yale, 1000 at Princeton, plus at least 10,000 in the Top LACs; I'm not sure how many in other places. I don't think there are anywhere near as many people posting their outstanding credentials on this site.
Btw: has anyone found another site lice CC?

I think it could also be coz the more normal, average-scoring people don't post their stats coz they feel intimidated by others. SO we should revolt and start a What are my chances? (the inclusive version)!!!!
I got a great score on the SAT and I was soooo happy and proud, and then I came to this site and I thought 'i don't stand a chance compared to these people' but even if i do get rejected by the top schools i'm still happy about what i achieved. Don't let them get you down! You'd be surprised but I don't think they are trying to intimidate the rest.

Exactly... it's a bit of both really. If the posters here are getting outstanding credentials and still getting rejected that clearly means that there are a lot of other amazing applicants who just haven't gone on this site. But you gotta remember there are even more with more average SAT scores and less impressive ECs who have applied to exactly the same schools who haven't found this site either.

there are tons of academic overachievers who dont use this site, because this site is complete waste of time...they spend their time in doing some cool EC or studying to get a 1600...

Congraulations! The original thread came in second place on the WAMC Forums!! If you add in Part 2, we have surpassed the all-time high, and thus, have set a new WAMC record!! SWEET!

btw, that's for the amount of posts in the thread

i think the reason people get on this site is to talk about college to people that actually care. i'm the only one of my friends that is really psyched about the whole thing and my parents are tired about me talking about it, so i get on here... it keeps me sane lol.

however, i really hate how 90% of the people on here have 1400's on the SAT and 4.5 GPAs. it's so aggravating. like seriously.. the person who posted that one thread about having a "1600 SAT score, where should i go?" should seriously not get in anywhere. i didn't even click on the thread b/c the title intimidated me too much so i don't know if it was a joke or not. people here should seriously just stop freaking out. i tried to start an "average" student thread but it wasn't very popular, there were only 8 postings and that's sad. WHERE ARE ALL THE COOL NORMAL KIDS?! haha.

This website is intimidating. I'm a freshmen in high school so I basically am addicted to looking at this site when I'm not studying and say "AugH! I better be like this!" and become obsessive. It works quite nicely as a study aid.

bump........

freshman! go away! now! it's not worth it. you are cooler then this. just have fun, like what you're learning, get to know your teachers and you'll be fine. oh yeah: cure Cancer, win the Olympics (and i mean all the events), become Dubya's personal advisor on the Mideast sitch and in your spare time learn how to make cold fusion work. that's it. you're in.
