Why is it that...

everything has to be turned into a race issue? Like last night I was watching CNN (in one of those blessed lulls between Michael Jackson coverage) and there was a whole "racial controversy" about how a mostly-minority day camp had been turned away from a public pool after one visit. I think it's pretty obvious that the kids were just badly behaved (this had happened with 2 other day camps), but now the media is calling the pool's owners racist. Am I the only person that sees how crazy that is?

Well it is a racial issue how do you know the kids were badly behaved ? Did it say that anywhere ? The simple fact is all kids are bad and i think that if they would have simply told them the pool was overcrowded and that they didn’t have room for camps there would have been no problem. But the fact that they were given no explanation and they heard people at the pool asking what are black kids doing here it does make it seem racist. I don’t know if you realize this but america isn’t color blind EVERYTHING is a racial issue.

Gay marriage? ;)

lol true

^^

It’s almost like a racial issue. Straights against gays. Of course some straights aren’t. Most against will argue it’s a choice to be gay, therefore racism is not okay since you can’t choose your race, and you can choose to be gay.

:)

You’ve got to be kidding me.

**** the ACLU. they’re just gonna make a political point. the pool is gonna go out of business and none of the kids in the surrounding neighborhood will have anywhere to go in the summer anymore. but who cares about those white, would-be plantation owners anyway?

Yes, everything does have to be an issue of some sort. Right now, there’s this huge controversy about two men getting kicked off a street owned by the LDS church after kissing one another. Now everyone Now everyone is mad at the LDS church, saying they’re against gays. It’s true, the two men were going a little overboard on the PDA, but if it was a heterosexual couple, would they have still gotten kicked off the street? Who knows?

Obviously the LDS are against gays. There’s no secret in that, I’m sure they’re proud of it.

why is everything being turned into a race issue?

because CNN is crappy journalism and outrage attracts ratings.

Cause otherwise it wouldn’t be on the news and then it wouldn’t be a race issue.

Anyone else trying desperately not to think of that “Pools closed because of aids” meme?

Because “Kids get kicked out of pool for being brats” probably wouldn’t draw anyone’s interest.
But that’s CNN for you.

You see people kissing each other all the time in public. Is that overboard? I doubt that they were groping each other.

If two straight people were kissing each other, I’m guessing they wouldn’t have gotten kicked out. Maybe they would’ve been asked to stop, nothing beyond that.

Yesterday I left a tooth on my pillow, the tooth fairy never came.
MLIA.

Look, the idea is that nothing is a racist issue. the truth is that everyone tries to view it through the paradigm of racism. The less we talk about it- the less people will worry about it. This topic is overused and boring. I’m sick to death of caring.

Not all problems can be solved simply by covering your eyes.

Are you trying to prove a point? Because you’re being racist assuming that because they were black, they were misbehaving. There was nothing to do with behavior in this issue.

^ it has a lot to do with behavior. that’s generally how you get kicked out of a pool, or not invited to come back.

Nobody knows what really happened. The question is whether it was because of behavior (justified) or race (unjustified). Impossible for some random person on the Internet to say.

Valley Swim Club member and eyewitness Jan told talk radio host Michael Smerconish that the campers were behaving nicely and were well supervised:" it was so orderly and so well regulated both by the part of the staff of the camp and the pool, I knew of no problems. The children were speaking so nicely with one another. They were conversing back and forth in such a nice manner. … I don’t think it would be a big problem that there were a lot of people there."

Camper Dymire Baylor told NBC: "I heard this lady, she was like, ‘Uh, what are all these black kids doing here?’ She’s like, ‘I’m scared they might do something to my child.’ "

Horace Gibson, a parent of a camper told NBC that “The pool attendants came and told the black children that they did not allow minorities in the club and needed the children to leave immediately.” And on Tuesday, the swim club’s president issued a statement saying, “There was concern that a lot of kids would change the complexion … and the atmosphere of the club.”

“The kids were well-behaved and have every right to be here,” swim club member Amy Goldman told The Philadelphia Daily News. “It’s shameful.”

is thereach’s post serious or sarcastic? i honestly can not tell…

“therefore racism is not okay since you can’t choose your race, and you can choose to be gay.” & i hope you;re kidding…

but, idk, i can’t really comment on this story. if it is a racial thing, then that’s horrible. but, honestly, the misbehavior thing does sound more likely.
