Why is my tuition this high?????

COA can include:
* Fees and books
* Living expenses
* Meals
* Transportation
* Personal expenses
* Dependent care
* Computer purchase
* Costs related to a disability
* Costs for eligible study abroad program
* Entertainment

here’s a list of FASFA lingo that might help some people out

[University of Wyoming](http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/SFA/General_Topics/lingo.asp)

Oh, so COA includes all that and personal/entertainment expenses?
It’s kind of deceiving…Making the price tag look more expensive when
it includes spending the student might make.

yea, basically, the higher your COA is, the better it is for you in a way since the school might want to give you some cash to cover those expenses

I’ll be staying with my cousin and his girlfriend while attending UT. Would that count towards my COA for financial aid purposes since I listed it as off campus, even though I’m not paying to stay with them? Also, my EFC is 3800(barely Pell Grant eligible) with a family income of ~$53K, how much can I expect from UT, if anything?

ok so we just updated my fafsa and my efc was 11671 and my parents made around 96k. my brother goes to UT too though so do you think i will be able to receive a decent amount of aid since i’m not the only one in college?

My EFC was about yours mf91 and I also have a brother in college. The financial package I got was all loans except for a 2K ten percent scholarship.

did the school give you money just for being in the top ten percent? because i’m in the top 4% of my class

Yeah it is a state program thing, everyone who is in the top 10% gets 2K. It came with the financial aid notification.

the COA is easily found on the web site

[FINANCIAL AID: 2008-2009 Undergraduate Cost of Attendance (COA)](Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin)

According to this the 2008-2009 tuition estimate for instate students for a semester is $4,045-5,952, so double that for a year.

oh i didnt know that. ha well at least i’ll get something

The 2K thing also requires financial need. I know b/c I got a letter in the mail saying I was in the running to get one b/c I was in the top 10% and would be notified by my school if I received the award. Unfortunately I didn’t get it b/c I don’t think I have enough financial need. Unless it’s awarded separately from the finaid package you get from UT in which case I still have a chance, but I doubt it. :frowning: But congrats to all those who did~

I got the Top Ten Percent scholarship…so that means they consider me having financial need. So why then, it was the only aid I received?! Makes me so mad.

man i hope i get this top ten percent scholarship thing. because i’m pretty sure my fin. aid package will probably be all loans and stuff
