Why is no one hiring me?

<p>At this point you can politely email each of the places you applied and write something like “I applied and wasn’t able to earn your nod. I’ll be applying to some other opportunities and I would deeply appreciate any words of advice you might have on how to be a stronger candidate for internships in this field.”</p>

<p>You might get zilch back – but if someone tells you your wardrobe is ghastly or that you are on hyperspeed talk mode in the interviews, be truly grateful for their words of wisdom. Truthfully, they will be pleasant (if they respond at all) so amp up the volume. If they say “Do slow down a bit with your answers” then translate that as “You sounded like Alvin the Chipmunk”. </p>

<p>Sometimes you just have to keep fishing.</p>

<p>64 == Its your life if you don’t want to be a professor then you are doing the correct thing and pursuing other options. Perhaps the others who you know who have other offers have better network connections through their own parents. It might be harder to network for you because your parents are academics. Just keep trying. You have to have the attitude that the worst thing that can happen is someone says Not interested…not life threatening, just need to then move on to your next prospect. Yes call your prospects, send a follow up email once or twice. But don’t stalk. Sadly many employers have become extremely rude and drop you in a black hole of no response if not interested.
