Rice students are wuite the opposite of what was said above. They are inclusive, welcoming, friendly and non-competitive.

“When my son and I visited Rice a few years ago, they all seemed very happy.”

People in NY/NJ/CT are thinking, “Didn’t they know how far they were from the Northeast???”

I grew up in New York City. Will I hate Rice’s setting?
I’m okay with country/rural settings. I’ve visited Cornell and I really liked the campus (although it was a little too big for my liking)
How does Rice compare (setting wise)? What is it like?
Is it worth making a trip all the way to texas?

Rice is in an urban setting but is “gated” from the rest of Houston.

Why would you “hate” the setting? Best to look on the bright side. What does it offer that is familiar (urban) yet new (enclosed, beautifully manicured campus with 285 acres and over 4000 trees.) You can run around the perimeter of the campus lined by hedges, and no city traffic/ streets run through the campus. Whats not to love? Of course the students are happy, and you will be too! Drop the “hate” perspective and think “love”.
