I agree with the a previous response noting that Ric eis underrated b/c more than half of its students come from Texas. I know personally many of my friends excluded Rice from their college selections with the general resonse.."Who wants to go to a school filled with a bunch of Texans?" Then again, most of my friends are liberals, so I don't know if Texans being mostly Republicans is the really reason for it. However, I think Rice is making an effort of accepting a more students from diverse backgrounds and places b.c they realize most kids want to experience diversity in their universities.

Trust me, they are trying. The president of rice just went to NY and Philedelphia to talk one-on-one with guidance counselors. the PRESIDENT of the university, not some admissions rep.

sunkist, yeah I also remember reading somewhere that Rice's purpose was to provide for Texans. :) That probably contributed to its current status with people who don't come from Texas. I agree with you that Rice should draw from a more regionally diverse applicant pool should it decide to increase its popularity, but not too much so that Texans are unfairly treated in the application process.

Glad to know that Rice is trying, jenskate. I remember you posting something about that before, too.

I agree with jenskate that Rice is trying as shown with their hiring of the current president. He can do nothing but good in promoting the university.

Yes, jenskate, that's great to know that the current president is working hard to bring diversity to Rice. :)

Hey jenskate, why aren't you at the Rice/Baylor baseball game at the juicebox? I'm listening to it online right now.

i actually just got back from volunteering at TX children's so i couldn't make the game today. I probably wouldn'thave gone anyway, because I'm bogged down with homework. Also, who wants to pay to see the baseball team when i can see them for free like 4 times next week! (All home varsity athletic events are free except for playoff)

Oh man, i just started listening online...this isn't going too well :(

No, it's not. This is the first time I've heard Jon Yardley do the play by play. He was my son's advisor during O-Week.

How fun - i love that about rice (small school, you always know people). Once, I was at a football game and the whole student section started cheering for "greg." Another time, at a basketball game, everyone was cheering for "brock." I love how people cheer for their friends. At a huge D1 school, you don't know the players, which seems like such a shame.

Oh well on the baseball game... you win some, you lose some.
