Just curious why we deserve that extra week.

because most core classes are on tue/thur in spring and so instead of having 3 10 minute passing periods, they only have 2 and save on a ridiculous amount of time.

Nah idk.

I assumed it was because summer school needed to start soon (there are 5 overlapping summer sessions) and faculty/staff needed a substantial adjustment period.

I think for the fall semester we generally start on Thursday, and for the spring we start on Tuesday. If the week starts on Thursday and many people don’t even have class on Friday…it doesn’t feel like a full week of school. Maybe?

Budget cuts maybe? We also got an extra week off during winter break. I’m not complaining haha!

birdhouse: that makes sense. And with Thanksgiving break during fall, make that another half-week lost.

I wouldn’t say we got an extra week off during winter break. They just shifted the semester back (it started and ends a week later this year). Summer and the following semesters are all shifted back a week too. Don’t really know why the readjustment was needed…
