why is the castilian good for freshman?

To be honest, salad bar & cone ice cream is the only thing I eat when food is bad. The lettuce is fresh everyday and so are the fruits but those egg…tuna…chicken…potato salads…looks like they use them for two days in a row…as in cook them on one day and use it again the next day…or that’s how it tastes like at least.

If its only between castilian, tower, and dobie, I’d still pick Castilian b/c towers is just too much of a party zone for freshmen, dobie is too high …incase of fire i m gonna need a parachute…so castilian is least of the evils.

that girl at the front desk is attractive. almost all the boys on my floor want her.

Is the Castillian or Dobie usually full by now? I’m still waiting for on campus housing but not hopeful…

Will it be too late to apply for Dobie or Castilian in the middle of the summer, let’s say, June-July?

Castillian is OK from my experience (which is somewhat limited). The food is decent and the rooms are pretty small and arent necessarily clean. I stayed there for 3 days one time during a summer and there were roaches in my room. Personally if you want to lie in a private dorm my reccomendation would be Towers as that is where ive decided to live. After Towers though I would probably live on campus. If youre worried about distance, dont be. Castillian is practically on campus its just on the borderline. You can literally walk onto the campus in 5 min or less.

Castilian is not usually full yet.

The Castillian has a great location if you’re in Liberal Arts or like Architecture. I visited Austin last weekend and I wished I could live there, but my parents really want me to live “on campus” on behalf of the university.

It’s just a block away from the tower though. GREAT location.

What its like on the inside - I don’t know.
The outside looks much older than it does on the website though.

Yea, Castilian & Dobie are right on campus…Castilian usually doesn’t get full until July or even August sometimes. I applied in July & got a room on the 13th floor (the quite floor) as I requested on my preference sheet. They will always tell you that they have this # of rooms left. BS. They usually offer deals around July for half off the deposit fee …which is like $450 but I wouldn’t apply later than July. Also, during the tour, they will show you the model room on the 17th floor…after the tour, see if a resident is willing to show you his/her room…its worth checkin out the real deal.

THANKS NXT FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTION… everyone is freaking ignoring me =</p>

Haha … How about Dobie? Dobie seems so much nicer than Castilian… Oh well whatever. I think both of them will be pretty good…

I also visited Dobie last july and out of the 8 or so different types of room styles they offer, few of them were sold out but you should still be able to find a decent room. Dobie usually lowers their room prices around that time too, although i am not sure about their deposit fee. Off campus dorms (dobie, castilian, towers) know that some students are coming to them b/c they applied late or either didn’t get their decision on time and thus didn’t get on campus housing. So they will have spaces available throughout…don’t worry about a place to live…i was sweating my balls off too …as you can prolly tell by the number of posts i made about castilian and other off campus dorms during last summer.
If you have already registered for your classes, go ahead and post their class locations on here & i can tell u which one will be closer for you or just look up UT campus map…but if you haven’t seen Dobie from the inside yet, a tour is must. But you’re right, its much nice and looks like a hotel from the “outside”

Yes nxt, dobie is the newest of the private dorms. If the castilian had not been renovated, then it could face some stiff competition from dobie. But the main point for castilian is it is very close to natural sciences buildings.

As for security, I transferred from a school in cleveland. The security in Austin is much better than what I have experienced before. We used to have at least once a month some person grabbing a student by the throat at knifepoint to ask him or her for money. And also someone got raped this summer in broad daylight in the park.

So I don’t think security is as much an issue here at Texas.

I still haven’t been accepted yet, NXT and XTRA, but I was just asking around because UT told me I would hear back by Mid-Late june, since I applied with fewer than 30 units at hte time… So I wasj ust worried that I won’t get a place to stay in Austin… haha I’m out of state and hoping for on campus housing, but that’s pretty much not going to happen since I applied for housing in late March… I was just panicking since I thought applying to the private dorms in early July would be a huge mistake and risky… I think I would choose Castilian in the end since it seems the most popular haha  Thanks guys!
