You’re clueless. My current internship is at a 9,000 person federal contracting IT company making $18/hr doing business enterprise development as sophmore in college. My gpa is about 2.8 which is a nonissue since my gpa NEVER came up in any of my interviews, which included companies such as L3 Communications, Microstrategy, and Mantech. Like i said its gonna be different for other majors but if your in a nontechnical field like business adminstration or something gpa is gonna matter a lot more than say computer science or EE.

in this economy it’s all about what you know. college degrees are getting severely saturated in the workforce. everyone has one nowadays.

it ends up being a thing about experience and skillset.

your username is “Econguy” – i’m guessing you studied econ. do you trade on the side? do you…read the wallstreet journal? do you wake up every day to be the best economist you can be?

i think that’s the kind of person businesses are going after.

learn as much as you can. learn to be good at the job you are going after.

hope this helps.

i had a terrible gpa, btw. but i’m doing well :)

From a 51 yo manager type, who hires a number of people…
Sometimes you have to go with what you choose or what you are dealt… low gpa, school , major etc … at the end of the day what other people are doing or saying wont impact your life.
“the world doesnt owe you a living” or in other words, You may think you are a good specimen of what you are and the world will adjust to make a spot for your greatness, this is not how it works. Take your talents, education, personal traits and think … what do i see–jobs, companies, volunteer organizations – that i can help achieve their goals , communicate that you can do that and will learn as you work…
