Why is UCSD harder than UCLA?

Most people rank UCLA higher than UCSD, but it seems like the classes at UCSD are so much harder than the classes at UCLA. Why? :(

are u kidding me? where are u getting this info.

my friends from high school who used to get similar grades to me, or slightly above me, who are at ucla are having such a hard time with their classes while im breezing through my classes here at ucsd.

Are you referring to this?

[UCLA
University”>University of California - San Diego]University of California - San Diego](UCLA)

Uh, a bunch of my friends and I at UCSD have other friends at UCLA who are totally just breezing through their classes there. Also, their class materials seem easier. They study way less, but get better grades, and I would like to think that this isn’t due to my being dumber than them.

Oyama: YES! They study less, but get higher GPAs!!

What the hell is your major happyhappy? How are you “breezing through” your classes? I’ve never met anyone at UCSD with that mindset. I feel like I’m working myself to death, personally.

And I’ve also heard UCLA isn’t that hard. Same with USC… yet both are ranked higher than UCSD. It really confuses me.

Every student, every class, every professor, every department, and every university is different. I’ve had some really easy classes at UCSD and some really hard ones.

Agreed with $Kings

I actually get good grades in my Upper-Div math classes with little effort, but can’t manage an A in a writing-intensive class in UCSD for the life of me. People are good at different things–just matters whether or not you got lucky enough to major in the same thing you’re good at.

@ucsandiego915:

My major is Management Science and Math double major, with a minor in Accounting.

I haven’t taken an Accounting course yet. So far, my classes have been:

Fall:
CAT 1
Math 20C
Econ 1
CSE 3

Winter:
CAT 2
Math 20F
Econ 3
Soc 1

Spring:
CAT 3
Math 20D
Econ 100A
Vis 20

Definitely not that difficult of a schedule so far compared to the engineering/science majors.

The CAT classes have been my hardest classes because I really suck at writing (always got B’s in high school in English), but somehow I’ve managed a lot better in college (due to luck, I guess, from easy TA’s). The Econ and Math classes have been really easy. CSE 3 is a joke class (which is required for CAT 3). Easiest A I’ve gotten in my life. And the GE courses I’ve taken so far have been easy too. Though, like I mentioned earlier, you can’t really compare my classes to the engineering/science majors.

If anything students here are more motivated after not getting into the school of their choices and as a result work way harder raising the curve. Thats the only explanation I can see

@Avib0y

I hope that’s sarcasm.

@Kings… You better believe its sarcasm.

^Ha ha, ok good. For a second there I was like “Avib0y, noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!”
