Does anyone have a good explanation? Other PA/midwest schools like this are about $48K per year. Ursinus is $58K per year, for all expenses. The other schools also give good merit money. Does Ursinus give even more to make up for the extra $10K sticker price?
Thanks!

Not sure which midwest schools you’re comparing it to. It’s very similar to many schools here in Pennsylvania that have similar fees. Franklin and Marshall comes to mind–F & M in fact was started about the same time by a follower of the same religion as the founder of UC, and they have similar reputations. People may argue that UC is not similar to Lafayette, but that is debatable. We went to the admitted students day last week and were favorably impressed. At least with regard to the sciences, there is an incredibly good ratio of students and faculty. The faculty who spoke during the chemistry and biochemistry break-out sessions indicated that they know the students by name and they actively try to ensure that their students graduate in four years. There may be a kernel of truth with regard to a correlation between merit aid and costs. Overall, I think it is a good value compared to other LACs in PA, except as compared to Swarthmore and Haverford.

It does give good merit money. My S received a $17/yr scholarship renewable as long as he maintains a 2.0.
