Why is VT's ED acceptance rate so low?

USNews.com: America's Best Colleges 2008: National Universities: Where applying early may help you most—or not

ED acceptance rate: 49%
regular acceptance rate: 71%
difference: -22%

I thought it was supposed to be easier to get in through ED?

b u m p

this is a guess.. but i would say that a higher ratio of the people who are applying to vt ed would be going for the engineering program vs other majors than people who are applying vt regular decision and so the acceptance rate would be closer to that of the engineering program and not the whole university- just my guess though

It also may have something to do with them deferring a lot of ED people to regular that eventually get in.

My 2nd son is applying ED to the College of Science (Biological Sciences). I never even looked to see what the ED rate was :(

GPA 3.2
SAT: M-730, CR-540
Taking challenging senior year courses
Older brother currently at VT in Engineering
OOS

Chances?

I would have to say no to great, but ED will help.

legacy (brother) helps also.
