Why isn't a Ti-89 allowed?

yeahhhh....why?? Is it because it does alot of the problems for you?

Because of the CAS I guess.

you can store so many equations...and its very easy to solve algebraic functions and graph and what not...

its too cheap, u can most likely get 98% of the questions right with Just the calculator. and have a sufficient amount of time left over.

man! if i could use the ti-89, i could easily factor, distribute, graph, and simplify in less than a minute. My score would be much higher too :(

TI-89 in a TI-84 body.

Someone at my school tried that 2 years ago. Unfortunately his proctor was his math teacher.

just download all those programs into your TI-84/83, and use them on the test. They have factoring programs, graph X=, Quadratic, etc. All useful tools for the ACT, but don't solely rely on them, because it does take time for the calculator to process them information and give you the answer. (maybe 2 sec, up to a minute.)

Because the TI-89's CAS makes it a symbolic calculator. That's also why they are not allowing the TI-Nspire with CAS.

I didn't know that you couldn't use a TI-89... was this rule in effect last June? I can't remember if I did use it or not (if I did, I honestly didn't do anything on it that i wouldn't have been able to do on a regular calculator. I don't even know how to.).

As far as I know, la montagne, this rule has been around for at least a couple of years, so I am pretty sure the rule was in effect last June. You are lucky if nobody noticed, and if you didn't use your calculator in a way that would let them know you used a calculator with CAS and got the test invalidated.

On the other hand, I may not have used my TI-89. We borrow them from the school, and I can't remember if I had to give it back to my math teacher before or after the test. I don't remember it having been an issue at all, so maybe I just didn't have one. :)

SAT_OS program on TI-83 does wonders on the ACT

True^^^. But i cant seem to figure out how some of the stuff works. Like the equation solver. And a few other parts of the program dont work for me. But i think maybe i just need to redownload it.

Its great though. I used it for like 10 problems today. It's especially good for distance, slope, and midpt. does it in 3 seconds.
